Blind Date Turned Proposal

Chapter 1372 Someone Wanted To See Her

The officer, however, grabbed his hand and pulled him aside. "I want her to come with me." Jasper tried to break free but to no avail. He could only watch as Josie was taken away.

A group of people were huddled at the entrance of the mansion, all of them scions who had never been treated like this before. They wore sour expressions, unwilling to cooperate. The leading policewoman was demanding they speak up.

Josie was surprised when she was brought straight to a police car. "I thought you were going to record my statement."

The officer opened the car door. "Someone wants to see you."

She looked up in surprise, only to find a familiar figure seated in the passenger seat.

Dexter?

The car was small, and he and his lanky physique seemed out of place in the cramped space. Looking exhausted, he said in a soft voice, "Get in."

Josie felt somewhat at a loss, but in the end, she still settled into the driver's seat.

She was uneasy, wondering what Dexter wanted, why he had suddenly appeared in Newcove, and whether what happened today had anything to do with him. However, it was pretty obvious that he was more or less involved.Property belongs to Nôvel(D)r/ama.Org.

"When did you get here?" she asked sheepishly, the fiery aggression she had displayed just a few days ago gone.

Fatigue was evident in Dexter's eyes as he glanced at her. "If I hadn't come, how long were you planning to stay with Morgan?"

Feeling guilty, Josie said, "His presence in Newcove was just too suspicious, and I had to investigate."

"What did you find out?" He placed his left hand on his leg, his finger absentmindedly tapping his knee. "Everything went exactly as you wished it would."

"As I wished?" Dexter chuckled in exasperation and lifted her chin. "Tell me what do you mean."

He almost never got angry after they reunited, and his display of emotions right now was a rare occurrence.

The sunlight refracted off the car window. As Josie looked at him, she felt surreal, as though he would vanish any second.

"You wanted me to know that Morgan wasn't as simple as he seemed, didn't you? Well, now I know! Isn't that what you wanted?" she snapped. She's quite feisty.

Dexter turned off the dashcam with his right hand, exerting more force as his fingers brushed past her tips. "If I had come a moment later, Morgan could've dragged you to your doom. Do you understand?"

"It was you who reported it," she uttered.

He neither confirmed nor denied her words, simply wiping away her lipstick with his thumb. His expression only softened when he saw her lips regain their original coler.

"What will happen to them? Will they find out?" Josie grasped his hand.

"No."

"Then..."

"If this were to leak out, you'd be ruined, too, including the Olsen family."

Therefore, he had no choice but to put an end to all this.

Josie didn't ask him how he knew, for he always had his ways.

"I didn't think much about this, and when I got involved, I couldn't extricate myself," she explained, knowing she had been reckless. "But they should be able to find_O

something, right?"

Dexter pulled out a tissue. "I'm indebted to the Witherspoon family, so I have to suppress this matter. No one will be exposed."

Josie's hand went limp. "So he really is Juliette's father..."

She couldn't discern whether she was disappointed or regretful.

"Does she know?" she asked.

"You seem to love taking others into consideration," Dexter said, frowning impatiently, his tone growing stern. "Why didn't you come back when I told you to?"

"I'm sorry," she quickly apologized, clasping her hands together in a pleading gesture, "Mr. Russell, can you find it in your heart to forgive me this time?" Things got out of hand, and she was naive to think she could get away with this by pleading.
