Chapter 29
However
“Do you think my girlfriend is worth that less to you?” “You’re insulting me,” Donald snarled.
“Uh…. This….” the kidnapping leader muttered to his friends, “then…. Fifty million? Prepare a 50, 000 remuneration!”
“Are you certain she’s worth $50 million?”
“Uh….”
“I’ll give you the opportunity to boost the price,” Donald mumbled absentmindedly.
In disbelief, I expanded my eyes! How could he discuss the ransom with the abductor in this manner? Was $50 million insufficient? More??
“Then…. one hundred million! Oh, no! 500, 000, 000!” The kidnapper exchanged glances with his companions for a while and said, “yes, you’re right. You can’t save her until you give $500 million!”
My eyes nearly popped out. 500, 000, 000, 000! How dare they say such a thing! How did I get to be worth $500 million?
“The transaction’s time and location.” Donald was as at ease at business as he was at home.
The kidnapper had not expected him to say yes so quickly. He hastily stated, “It’s now two o’clock. You must have cash ready by eight o’clock tonight. I’ll send you another mail to let you know where the transaction will take place!”
“As long as you serve her well, I will give you one billion dollars, not to mention 500 million.”
Not only did the kidnappers’ eyes expand, but so did mine. One billion dollars?! Was he insane?
“It’s now my turn to inform you the time.” “If I don’t see the images in an hour, not only will you lose your ransom, but also your life,” Donald added slowly.
The air was thick with oppressive cold.
Donald got off the phone. The frantic tone resonated throughout the air.
The kidnappers’ leader was surprised for a while before shouting, “What exactly are you doing here? Prepare yourself!”
The men were stunned and quickly came to their wits. “Are we going to relocate the eatery here, boss? And the footwear…. What Donald just mentioned was a large quantity of money….”
“Yes, we don’t have to extort him if we have the money.”
“You must execute his request within an hour, no matter what means you employ! If you don’t have any money, you can borrow it first or rob it! Wait until tonight for that 500 million, no, one billion..”
“Yes, yes, yes….” the men said as they stepped outside to take a look.
“I didn’t expect you to be so precious, Miss Trista!” The kidnappers’ leader promptly brought out a chair and wiped it. He shoved it in front of my face and said, “Please take a seat. This chair might not be very comfortable. Soon, my workers will bring you a new sofa, ensuring that you may eat dinner in a comfortable setting….”
I opened my mouth but said nothing. I’m not sure whether I should be happy for them or worried about them. What kind of ruse is Donald pulling? How can I be worth a billion dollars? Would he truly pay the kidnappers’ ransom and release them? Or should he just toss out a bait and wait for the fish to bite?
Donald’s viewpoint
Inside the limo.
“Have you discovered the location?” I shook my glass in my palm.
Ira properly bowed and continued, “Miss Trista is in an abandoned warehouse on The East Street, according to the GPS. Should we take action right away?”
“There’s no rush.” I set the glass down, stood up, and walked to the window. “Pick her up once she has eaten and rested.”
Ira stepped back quietly and remarked, “I’m sorry to have to say that. As a Miss Trista, I’m sure she doesn’t want this to get out of hand. Would it be better if we handed it up to the cops and let them handle it?”This is property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
I gave a knowing grin. “You already know what I’m thinking. Proceed with caution.”
The phone beeped twice and an MMS was received. I clicked it and discovered Trista eating in an elegant setting while wearing a pair of orange high-heeled shoes.
She wasn’t expecting them to be so quick.
I was finally glad when I saw that Trista was unharmed. I can hardly live in the environment depicted in the photographs. After all, it’s a kidnapping, and I can’t make such a lofty demand.
Trista’s point of view
Following the lunch, the kidnapper offered Miss Trista a cup of black tea and added, “Miss Trista, please enjoy yourself!”
They fully regarded me as a big shot in this moment. “In truth, you are not required to do so…. You haven’t eaten yet, have you? There are still many dishes that have yet to be consumed. Gather around the table and dine together.”
“No way, no how. Simply eat. How can we be on the same level with you?” “It would be horrible if Mr. Donald finds out,” one of the men added, forcing a smile.
“How does he know if we don’t tell him?” Recognizing their hunger, I patted the plush sofa and whispered, “Take a seat. You haven’t had anything to eat all day, have you?”
One of the men cast a sidelong glance towards Cody. Cody ultimately consented to let them have dinner after a little moment of silence. “But you can only stand for so long. You are unable to sit. We must still follow the rules. After all, there’s a big social chasm between us….”
I’m completely speechless.
I couldn’t help but sigh as I watched them devour the food one by one. How long had they remained hungry? Regardless of the cold, they seized the meal and ate it.
“It’s really tasty….”
“Thank you very much, Miss Trista….”
They were praised while eating. My heart was pounding a little too hard. Unconsciously, I noticed a moon when I peered out the window.
I had an epiphany and remembered a question. “Did you steal these items?”
“No, they were all bought with gold and silver!” the man hurriedly explained.
“How did you obtain the funds?”
“I asked a friend for assistance, and I borrowed it from…. Miss Trista, you misjudged us. How are we going to rob it?”
“Hahaha….”
They all burst out laughing.
Perhaps one billion will arrive shortly. Everyone is having a nice time. Some are playing cards, some are kidding, and don’t forget to converse with me in nonsense.
Suddenly, a worried footman ran in. “Boss! We were duped! Donald brought a large group of people here! He had defrauded us all!”
what?
Tension had taken the place of the relaxed environment.
In a rush, one of the men apprehended me. “Take her as a hostage, boss.”
“Oh, no! Donald failed to keep his commitment!”
“We are now doomed!”
“How should we proceed?”
The men were terrified.
The leader cast a glance out the window. I followed his vision and observed more than a dozen cars approaching from a distance and proceeding in an organized fashion –
Did Donald actually call the cops?
“Let’s go have a look!” When the leader waved his hand, numerous men immediately followed him. One of them pressed a knife against my neck and said, “collaborate! You will be alright as long as we are fine.”
“Slow down….” I was terrified that if he became furious, he might endanger my life, so I had to console him. “Those aren’t police cars, in my opinion. Did you get it wrong….”
“No way!” The man was enraged and terrified. His hand trembled as he gripped the knife. “We asked him to come alone, but he requested assistance! He had to have phoned the cops!”
“Take caution with your knife….” I believe he is terrified. Perhaps he will behave rashly.
The commander couldn’t stop cursing, “sucker!”
