My Best Friend Left Me After 199
A Chance Emily's
POV
"So you're investigating your own family?" I asked, pretending that I didn't know. I'm lying on the bed, naked under the sheets. Matt Foster is beside me, playing with my hair.
"Yes," he breathed out. "I had no choice. You said I should investigate to prove Kelly that she's wrong, but I'm proving myself wrong, Em. My father was involved in her mom's death. I'm sure of that."
I shot an eyebrow up. "You don't even have a proof."
"No concrete evidence, but I heard him twice talking to someone about certain documents that could be used as evidence against him."
"So you believe, your father, a perfect man in your eyes, was a murderer?"
"I don't know."
I can see it in his eyes. He's having a hard time accepting what happened. It breaks his heart discovering how evil his father could be. It was the same heartbreak I felt when I realized my father was involved in some syndicate. I can't accept it. I can't accept that the money he used to raise me and give me education was from illegal doings.
"What are you planning? You'll report him?"
"I have to, Emily. That's the right thing to do."
"What about your twin? Will he do the same?"Property belongs to Nôvel(D)r/ama.Org.
"He will do the opposite, Emily. He believed in our father so much."
He insisted on having a relationship. I don't have feelings for him. Yes, he satisfies me in bed. I like his kisses. I like his touch. I like how he makes me excited whenever we get physical. But is that enough to enter into a relationship with him? I admit I'm afraid to trust again. I admit, I've developed a trauma because of what happened to me in the past. I don't wanna trust him.
I felt his hand caressing my bare shoulders and suddenly, I didn't like it. So to avoid his touch, I got off the bed, completely naked and wore my robe. I even grabbed a stick of cigarette and lit it. "Do you smoke all the time?"
Slowly, I faced him and smirked. "Why? You don't like women who smoke? It's okay. Let's break up." His brow shot up as he looked at me. "You think I'll Let you go because of that stupid reason?
I scoffed. "Why do you even want to have me as your girlfriend?"
"I already answered your question, Emily. I told you I like you."
""That's not enough."
"That's enough because I know it will grow more." "What?"
He got off the bed and walked around naked. My gaze landed on his buttocks and my brow shot up. "If you don't want to believe me, then it's alright. I just want you to stay with me and try this relationship. You're bored, anyway. So if you want to ease your boredom, just call me
dimo anno Matt I don't think you'll settle for that."
A Chance
He stopped in front of the bathroom door and looked at me. He smirked. "Try me. I'm telling you this feeling is eternal."
I was left alone and dumbfounded because of what he said. I stared at the closed door of the bathroom and swallowed hard. He's serious. I don't know what to do. I never got involved with a man like him. He's full of surprises. At first, I thought he was just like another man but I was wrong. He's different. Really different.
I swallowed hard and went out of the bedroom as I dialed Kelly's number. I bit my nail finger while waiting for her to answer the call. I think she's still asleep.
[Hello-] "Kelly!"
I heard noises from the other line. [Are you okay? Did something happen?]
I bit my bottom lip and took a very deep breath. "I just have a question."
A long pause from her line made me think if I'm really gonna ask her about this, but in the end, I found myself asking.
"Uh...I think I'm developing feelings for your cousin."
[Matt?]
"Yes..."
[He's not evil, Emily. I think you can trust him.]
""But I'm afraid of trying again."
[Emily, if you already have feelings for him, you can't run away from it.]
"So...you suggest we make this work?"
[You really are together?]
I sighed and played the carpet with my slippers. "Yes. He's just...so persistent. He kept on chasing me. Can you even believe that he made a scene in a bar just because I'm avoiding him?"
I heard her chuckle. [I guess this is your great chance in love, Emily. Why don't you try it? Just like how I grabbed the chance to be happy with Pierce again.]
I bit my bottom lip. "You think he won't hurt me?"
I can't answer that. But if your heart wants it, go for it. Don't restrain your feelings, Emily. It will only make you feel burdened.]
I swallowed hard again as I slowly nodded. Well, I guess she's right. There's no harm in trying, anyway. And happiness always comes with risk and sacrifices. I guess I should give this a chance and see if it will work. If not, I'll immediately cut my connections with him. But if it did work...then I won't let him go either.
Saving...
Kelly's POV
"A black and white themed wedding... We'll make it extra elegant."
I smiled at the wedding planner. Our wedding will proceed. I don't care about Lexl. If she's really pregnant, then all the more I should marry Pierce this early. I don't want her to ruin us again although he managed to ruin us when I'm already married to Pierce. But if she's lying about her pregnancy just to tear us apart, I'm gonna make her pay.
"It's a garden wedding and your daughter will be your ring bearer," the wedding planner continued, recalling our conversations earlier.
I felt Pierce's hand caressing the small of my waist. We're sitting close to each other and I can feel him constantly smelling my hair and brushing his nose against the strands.
"I will personally contact you for the food tasting, and fitting of the gown. And if you have more concerns, you have my contact, Mrs. Anderson."
I smiled at her and nodded. "Yes, thank you."
We shook each other's hand before she left. Pierce faced me and kissed me on the lips as he smiled sweetly. I know, just like me, he's excited for our upcoming wedding.
"I can't wait to brand your name with mine again," he whispered as he pulled me closer and planted a soft kiss on the side of my neck.
I smirked as I pressed my palms against his chest. We're in that position when Phoebe entered the house, behind her was Emily and Matt.
Phoebe just got home from school. She also volunteered to research about possible schools where Snow can attend this coming school year.
"Kelly, someone's looking for you."
I nodded and smiled at Phoebe. "Thank you, Phoebe.*
She kissed my cheek before she went upstairs. Snow is sleeping in her Pierce's bed. She said she wants to sleep because she's tired but I know she's just trying to be mature. She's copying her aunt Phoebe who sleeps when bored.
"Should I leave you with them?" Pierce whispered but I shook my head and held his hand.
I glanced at Matt and faced Emily. "Is there a problem?
Emily shrugged her shoulders. "He just suddenly called me and asked me to bring him to you since he discovered something."
I, then, turned to Matt. "Does it concern my mom's death?"
He shook his head. "Not her death, Kelly. Her abduction."
My forehead creased. I already let go of that part since I discovered that it cannot be resolved again. since there was no evidence or witness left. All the kidnappers got burned together with the car and the only puzzle to solve about that incident was how my mom survived that car crash. Obviously, she wasn't
in that car.
I pointed at the couch across from me and Pierce. "Sit down."
Matt grabbed Emily's hand and pulled her to the couch. The latter rolled her eyes and slapped Matt's
hand while Matt glared at her.
My brow shot up because of what I witnessed. Emily called me yesterday morning about her growing feelings for Matt. I support her. I can feel and see that Matt isn't like his family. I also discovered that he's a dentist. He wanted to become a surgeon, actually, but he ended up becoming a dentist.
"What about my mom's abduction, Matt?"
He sighed. "I was angry because you're accusing my parents, but after all that I discovered, I finally understand why you're doing this..."
He looked down and clenched his jaws. I never met your mom, Kelly. But I couldn't accept the fact that my father was involved in her death...and possibly in her abduction too."
My forehead creased. "Matt, mom was so young when she was abducted. I don't think your father was involved. I believe he's involved in her death, but not in the abduction."
He pulled his hair, obviously frustrated. He looked down before he looked me in the eyes again. "Kelly, I heard him talking to someone over the phone. He was talking about a burned document. The second time I heard him, he's talking about it again. And then just this morning, I heard him mentioning the son of one of the kidnappers. I think the kidnapper's son was also involved in your mom's death
My eyes widened. "What?"
He sighed. "This is becoming more confusing now. Do you have any idea about the burned document? I think it was connected to the kidnapper's son."
My lips parted in shock. Burned document. The documents given to me by Attorney Lee? Or the documents burned by Luke's sister?
Who's the kidnapper's son? Was it... Luke? But...I don't know. Who are the kidnappers anyway? I need their
information.
I looked at Pierce. "I need to investigate the kidnappers."
He nodded. "I'll call my private investigator about this."
