Back in Time: Unshackling From Love (Mikayla Davidson)

Chapter 280

Chapter 280

Knowing how unyielding Taylor could be, Mikayla didn’t want to argue with him.

“Fine. When are you free?”

“Tomorrow. I’ll give you two days to work on the contract.” All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.

She spotted his amused expression. Growing anxious, she asked, “You’re not trying to humiliate me in

public or set up a trap for me, right?”

Taylor grinned. “You’ve agreed. No matter what the consequences might be, you have no way out now.”

Mikayla was speechless.

She paid Baldwin a visit in the afternoon and finally closed the deal. She returned to Mocato to meet with

Taylor again.

“Great! Everything’s settled. Let’s celebrate over a meal.” Taylor was elated.

Mikayla turned down his offer, though. “Don’t bother. We can always eat some other time.”

“Leave that to the future. I declined all my other lunch dates. You have to come with me,” Taylor chided.

“Are you using me to fend Ms. Sullivan off?” she asked.

Taylor fished his car keys and answered, “You don’t have to play that role today. It’s just a meal. Since you’re joining us next week, just treat it as an early celebration.”

Sensing that he wasn’t fooling around, Mikayla complied and headed to the basement with him. She slipped into the front passenger seat as he settled behind the wheel. They were in the middle of a conversation regarding the medicine’s publicity when Mikayla’s phone rang

She thought it was Jerome, but it turned out to be Celeste. She probably called to ask her about her divorce progress, knowing that Wanda’s birthday was over.

“Celeste.” Mikayla answered the call.

“Oh, why do you sound so down? Let me guess. Did the divorce fail again?” Celeste jested.

Frustrated, Mikayla grumbled, “He went on a business trip this morning. I don’t know when he’s coming

back.”

“As expected, he’s not just gonna accept the divorce. What are you going to do, then?” Celeste asked.

“I’m gonna call him later to confirm. He can’t possibly plant himself, overseas, right?”

“In this case, isn’t the process going to be prolonged?” Celeste asked.

Mikayla was slightly surprised. “I thought you’d ask me to think through it.”

“Am I that dense to you?” Celeste rebuked. “I used to say that because I wanted you to give yourself a

chance. It took you years to pursue him, and he’s finally showing signs of affection now. But I’m not going to ask you to reconsider anymore.

“He said he’s just Kylie’s colleague, but he always seems particularly concerned whenever she’s involved in something. He even suspected you when she was injured at the party. He also didn’t trust you this time when she suffered from a drug allergy. Who gives a damn about a man like him?”

Celeste was awash with fury. Mikayla, on the other hand, giggled.

“Thanks for not telling me to reconsider my decision.”

“Don’t mention it! You know you can always come to me whenever you need someone to talk to. I’m

always there for you.”

“Thanks, but I don’t have anything to tell you now.”

“Fine! You’re a changed woman now, I see. You don’t need me anymore. I’ll leave, then!”

Amidst their bickering, Mikayla realized Taylor’s gaze flitted toward her. She said goodbye to Celeste and

ended the call.

“What are you looking at? Haven’t you heard enough gossip? Do you want to be part of it as well?” Mikayla quipped.

“I’m not deaf. You guys were so loud. It was impossible not to eavesdrop.”
