Chapter 231
Chapter 231
The nurse hurried over and said, “The patient doesn’t seem right. Move her to the emergency room now!”
Jerome laid Kylie on the gurney. The color drained from her lips as she mumbled, “I’m fine… My dad…”
The nurse wheeled her off to the emergency room, and Jerome lifted Carter up in a haste.
“Kylie, what happened? Please don’t scare me!” He stumbled toward Kylie’s gurney.
Jerome went with him, carefully guiding him to avoid him collapsing again.
Mikayla stood where she was, overwhelmed by the throbbing pain in her palms.
Her husband, the man whom Celeste was so sure that he wasn’t going to file a divorce, was rushing
toward Kylie now.
He didn’t even spare her a glance, let alone be concerned about her injury.
A few drops of blood splattered on the ground.
She took out a tissue from her bag, and pressed it onto the wound.
She took the lift and went downstairs.
Instead of heading toward Mike’s car, she emerged from another exit and left in a cab.
“Missus, where are you going? Are you alright?” The driver asked again after Mikayla’s extensive silence. NôvelDrama.Org owns all © content.
She peered down at the bloodied tissue and replied, “Just drop me off at any clinic.”
The driver was baffled. Didn’t she just come out of the hospital? Why was she headed for a clinic now?
“I can’t tolerate the long queue and tedious procedures at the hospital,” Mikayla added. “It’s more
convenient to visit a clinic,”
The driver took her word for it.
“You’re lucky that you’ve hailed me then. I’m a local, and I know a 24–hour clinic nearby. It’s very late now, and the other clinics are all closed.”
“Thanks.”
They arrived at the clinic after a while, and she gave him a 100–dollar tip.
Mikayla strode into the clinic right after getting out of the car.
A female doctor, Anne Cleveland, was on shift.
She gasped when she saw Mikayla’s wound. The gravel had her palms covered in blood.
“Oh dear, it must be painful! Your hands look so delicate and slender,” Anne said empathetically.
Mikayla remained silent.
Anne produced a bottle of disinfectant and a pair of tweezers.
“Is there anyone accompanying you? The procedure to remove the gravel to reduce inflammation usually hurts a lot. I’m worried that a delicate woman like you might cry. Do you want to ring your boyfriend and get him to accompany you?” she asked.
Mikayla shook her head. “No. Just carry on with the treatment.”
“Why? Do you not have a boyfriend? You’re gorgeous, though!” Anne was in the mood to gossip.
Mikayla flashed a faint smile. “I’m married, actually. He’s with someone right now, so I don’t think he can
come.”
Anne was rendered speechless.
Judging from Mikayla’s reaction, she could roughly deduce what happened.
“I suppose he must be blind for abandoning his lovely wife and accompanying someone else instead!”
Anne said
Mikayla smiled, but she didn’t utter a word.
Anne refrained from probing further, and began to treat her wound.
The procedure was excruciating due to the overwhelming pain of disinfecting the wound.
Even most men couldn’t endure the pain, yet Mikayla kept quiet nonetheless. She didn’t grimace at all.
Anne was astounded. “You’re remarkable.”
Mikayla didn’t reply.
She thought the pain was nothing compared to the pain she had to endure when she was diagnosed with stomach cancer in her previous life.
Her phone rang once her treatment was almost done.
She glanced over at the caller ID and muted her phone instantly.
“Is it your husband?” Anne asked.
