Anita’s Voice: Behind the Headlines

Fire

Chapter 7: Fire

On getting to the office, she went straight to Madam Cross’ office and knocked.

“Come in!” Madam Cross said a bit loud as she concentrated on the workload at her front that morning.

“Good morning ma’am.” Anita greeted respectfully as she headed towards Madam Cross.

“Grand rising Anita! I hope you had a nice rest last night. Come and take a look at this file on my table. It’s about a case we need to pay attention to.

Investigating on this matter would be really worth it.” Madam Cross kept talking.

Sensing Anita’s silence that morning, she looked up.

“So what’s with the silence. I am talking to you about what I need you to attend to. Can you even hear me Anita?” she said with her hands crossed.

“Ma’am I can hear you. I just have something I would love to talk to you about.” Anita said, her voice sounding a bit hard.

Madam Cross could sense the seriousness from her. Without a second thought on the matter, “Sit down Anita. I am all ears.” she responded quickly.

“Grateful, “thank you ma’am! Please take a look at this paper.” Anita said, she then sat down and stretched the paper towards Madam Cross. Madam Cross took the paper without thinking twice.

After ten minutes, Madam Cross and Anita was in the office as they started at each other. Clearing her throat, Madam Cross broke the silence first.

“Anita, who are you?” she silently asked.

“Ma’am I am just a simple girl. I just happened to get this information from a friend and I think it will be a good help to Sass Media House, so I thought I should bring it to you.”

“Wow Anita! You are awesome! This will be valuable to us indeed.” Madam Cross said, looking at the paper.

Officer Thomas sat in his office as he thought about everything that happened the night before.

He smiled.

It felt so good. “This seem like a good sign. Picking up his phone, he called an unsaved number.

“Why are you calling?” A thick voice sounded from the other end of the phone.

“My lord! Grand rising! Everything seems fine. Soon, I will be the best and most famous police officer. All thanks to your brilliance and of course, my smartness.”

“Shut up! You are yet to, so don’t just wish. Work towards it instead. Make sure she can trust you completely. Do you understand?”

“What can I do to a huge that?”

“If she’s now your woman, you know what to do.”

“Yes, my lord.” I…” before he could complete his statement, the call ended.

“Urghh!” Thomas could not really get why this man keeps being indifferent when it came to matters that both of them were involved in. Anyways, what matters is that soon, he would get to the level he had always dreamt of.

“Anita, I see so much potential in you. I feel like soon, you will become the most talked about in this city. How on earth are you this smart and connected?” Madam Cross still couldn’t believe her eyes as she looked at Anita.

“Ma’am I wish to be of good importance to this gracious media house, but, I don’t want to just wish for it, I want to be practical and work towards it.” Anita responded with a slight smile on her face.

“From the looks of it, I think according to this paper, there us a case tomorrow. So, I think plans has changed. We have to prepare for this case Anita. 5pm tomorrow evening.” Madam cross said to Anita.

“Yes ma’am.” Anita responded with determination.

“Also, I hope you know it’s not about being present, you have to ensure you capture useful information and don’t forget to stay safe.” Madam Cross said to her in concern.

She was aware of how dangerous these missions can be and didn’t think it would be cool sending her employees out without warning them of their safety.

“Yes ma’am. I am aware of that.” Anita responded. She fully understood.

“Good!”

“I will take my leave now if there’s nothing else ma’am.”

“Alright Anita, we will discuss the success after the win.” smiling slightly, Anita made her way out of the office and unknowingly bumped into Andre, causing their heads to hit against each other.

“Ouch! What the hell? Weren’t you looking?” Anita stated furiously seeing as it was Andre.

Why does she only have to deal with this individual early in the morning. For goodness sake there were better times to come across him.

“I’m sorry, but you weren’t looking either. You have such a stony forehead, my voice should be louder.” he spat.

Anita froze.

A strong forehead? Did he just call her that? Gosh this dude is so annoying.

Blinking her lashes, she attempted to walk away.

“Anita wait.” Andre grabbed her by her arm.

“Don’t touch me Andre.” Anita said a bit aggressive.

“I am sorry, please wait. If we don’t cooperate, how do we work together?” Andre asked as he touched his forehead.

“You might as well resign.” Anita told him as she kept moving away.

“But I don’t want to resign, I want to work here. Since we were placed in the same spot, I can only ask for your cooperation.”Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.

He made sense and she knew it.

Anita thought about it clearly. She understood that she didn’t like him, but since they were working together, it was only normal that they get along.

She was going to do this, but for business purposes only. Turning to look at him, she noticed how stressed he looked.

Was it not just an argument? He looked like he was already tired of her and trying to keep up.

She wanted to keep talking, but seeing as I was necessary to cooperate, she decided to go easy on him.

“Fine. There will be a matter to handle tomorrow by 5pm. Get ready, it will be a fire case.” she said and walked out.

Andre froze.
