Chapter 34
Chapter 34
“Thanks, I learned something new,” Nathan said with a grin, determined to give Howard’s happiness one more push.
“Howard is a catch with great looks and body. He’s just got a bit of an ego. Don’t hold it against him. Once he’s back on his feet, you two will have all the happiness in the world.” Pure bliss!
Gwendolyn blinked, not quite catching his drift. But she nodded obediently, “Okay.”
How could she ever resent Mr. Chadwick? He had helped her out, even given her money. He
was the best patient anyone could ask for!
After a conversation that was more like chickens talking to ducks, Nathan left, content with his efforts.
Three days later, the Grand Gavel Auction House was bustling with its monthly auction event.
The list of items had been announced well in advance, and there were plenty of treasures to bid on. As a result, the parking lot was packed, with half of Bayridge City’s elites making an
appearance.
Gwendolyn was pushing Howard’s wheelchair into the Romanesque building, her eyes wide with amazement.
Jeannie, walking alongside her, wrapped an arm around Gwendolyn’s, “There’s some really cool stuff up for auction today. Lucky you talked me into coming, or Howard would have had me stay home.”
With that, she threw a pointed look at Howard.
“Mr. Chadwick is pretty reasonable,” Gwendolyn said, glancing down at Howard in the wheelchair in defense.
“He’s just biased and treats you way better than anyone else.” Jeannie complained.
“Keep it up, and I’ll have the driver take you back,” Howard said coolly, his presence commanding.
Jeannie quickly shut her mouth.
“Mom, look who’s over there! What kind of nanny dresses that plain?” Vivien, her nails painted a loud red and face caked in makeup, pointed at Gwendolyn.
Gemma, carrying her purse, stood by her side, the picture of indulgence and affection.
“Well, if it isn’t my dear step–sister,” she sashayed over, “A cripple and a country bumpkin.”
“Vivien, all you ever do is spit venom!” Jeannie bristled like a sword, stepping protectively in front of Gwendolyn and Howard, “You’re dressed like a whore. Shame all that foundation can’t match Gwendolyn’s natural beauty.”

*Jeannie, how dare you! Vivien flipped her hair, her eyes flicking resentfully over Howard, “Give it a low months, and I’ll be a member of the Chadwick family, Better watch your tongues, or you will have it rough.”
Jeannie snorted, “You and Bainbridge are perfect for each other, both spiteful and low–le”
Vivien was twisted with anger under Howard’s icy gaze, “I hear Mr. Howard’s shooting blanks. Isn’t that just tragic?”
Howard looked up. “My marriage is none of your business.”From NôvelDrama.Org.
“You…” Stung by his cold stare, Vivien flared her temper.
Jeannie laughed heartily. “My brother wouldn’t give you a second glance, bitch.”
“Vivien,” Gemma tugged at her sleeve, “Bainbridge is waiting inside. Don’t waste your breath on them.”
Vivien shook off her hand angrily, “I don’t need your reminders, thanks to your wonderful parenting.” She strutted away in her high heels.
Gemma followed, a touch of embarrassment on her face.
“I’ve never seen a mother who lets her stepdaughter bully her own,” Jeannie scoffed in defense of Gwendolyn.
Gwendolyn kept her eyes down, feeling a lump in her throat.
Howard’s warm and dry hand covered hers, giving it a gentle pat, “Let’s go inside.”
