Chapter 101
Chapter 101
“I do not need that thing!”
Gwendolyn quickly pressed down on his hand. “It’s unnecessary.”
Howard raised an eyebrow and suddenly realized something, his lips curving into a smile. You might find a use for it.”
Her eyes glistened with unshed tears as she shook her head. “That’s not for me to use.”
It was for him!
Howard teased her. “Then tell me what it is.”
Her cheeks flushed, struggling to find the words. “Mr. Chadwick, your legs haven’t fully recovered. It’s not quite appropriate.”
A soft chuckle escaped Howard’s throat as he opened his palm to reveal a beautifully wrapped small gift box.
“Gwendolyn, this is a gift for you,” he said softly.
The girl had no jewelry to speak of. The delicate emerald jade bracelet she once wore was tucked away. When she heard it was worth a small fortune, she dared not wear it again for fear of damaging it.
Gwendolyn misunderstood his intentions and felt exceedingly embarrassed.
She took the small gift box, opened it, and found a pearl necklace inside.
It was a magnificent South Sea pearl surrounded by a halo of diamonds. It was stunning.
“Mr. Chadwick, this…”
“This is in return for the cufflinks you gave me. Try it on.”
A sweet warmth surged in Gwendolyn’s chest. She took the necklace and attempted to clasp it. But the clasp was tight, and she couldn’t fasten it herself.
“Let me help,” Howard suddenly offered.
Gwendolyn felt a large shadow cast over her as Howard took the necklace from her, lifting her hair with his fingers to fasten it around her neck.
Standing?
Gwendolyn stared at him, afraid to even blink. Her eyes moistened and reddened.
Her voice trembled. “Mr. Chadwick, you’re standing! You can stand!” NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.
Howard was tall and well–proportioned, his figure rivaling that of a top male model. He looked at her with a calm and gentle gaze.
all thanks to our Dr. Gwen here. His eyes had warmth in them melting
his voice as soothing as a plano’s melody.
Gwendolyn hugged him excitedly and shouted, “I’m so happy!”
“Keep it down. It is our little secret.”
Howard wrapped his arms around her waist. Gwendolyn looked up into his eyes.
It was the first time he had embraced her while standing, and she seemed so delicate in his presence.
“Mr. Chadwick, I never imagined…” Her voice was soft, her eyes reflecting his image.
Howard felt a warmth spread through his heart as he said, “Thanks for being here for me, Gwendolyn.”
Her eyes sparkled, and she looked at him, rising on her toes to kiss his cheek.
“Meeting you has been my fortune as well,” she said with pure sincerity.
Howard felt a fire igniting within him.
For the first time, he felt his desire for her, a yearning that manifested physically. His heart raced with thoughts of crossing boundaries.
Beneath the gentleman’s exterior lurked a rogue spirit, yearning to overwhelm her until she cried.
He wanted to press her against the wall in a way that was reckless and domineering. Outside, the spring rain was persistent, and the wind and thunder roared.
Inside him, a beast of desire clawed, eager to break free.
He held her even tighter.
Howard’s presence enveloped Gwendolyn in a commanding yet gentle embrace.
Her cheeks flushed, her body melting into his embrace. Finally, with some difficulty, she whispered, “Mr. Chadwick, it’s too tight.”
Howard took a deep breath, his hands braced against the wall as he pulled away slightly. “I apologize.”
Her voice was barely audible. “Mr. Chadwick, are you just too happy?”
Howard closed his eyes to steady his breathing. “Yes.”
Gwendolyn was unaware of Howard’s tumultuous thoughts. She reminded him. “We have to return to Bayridge City in the morning. We should rest.”
Was she inviting him to sleep with her?
