Jenna quickly collected her thoughts and whispered, "Hunter, you should put me down. I think Mia really misunderstood this."
Hunter frowned and snapped, "Mia, stop being passive-aggressive!"
With that, he carried Jenna off, leaving Mia standing there.
Mia was speechless. What had she even said to be accused of that? Passive-aggressive?
Mr. Cooper, feeling sorry for her, gently tried to comfort her. "Mrs. Mia Jasper, don't take it to heart. Come on, let's check on Mr. Jasper Sr."Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
Mia nodded and walked toward the couch. But just as she approached, the supposedly unconscious Mr. Jasper suddenly sat up straight. Mia jumped in surprise. "Grandpa?"
Wasn't he supposed to have passed out? What was going on?
"Come sit with me, Mia!" Mr. Jasper Sr. said cheerfully. "Mr. Cooper, hurry up and tell the kitchen to get dinner ready. Mia and I are starving!" He seemed completely fine. Nothing like someone who had fainted.
Mr. Cooper, relieved, nodded and hurried off to the kitchen. He had been genuinely worried that something serious had happened to the old man.
1 didn't want to see her, but she insisted on coming, so I had no choice but to pretend to faint," Mr. Jasper Sr. said bluntly, making no effort to hide his distaste for Jenna.
At his age, he had seen it all. Jenna's little tricks didn't fool him at all. He couldn't stand the sight of her.
Mia couldn't help but laugh. "Grandpa, you can't keep doing things like that! You had me worried!"
She felt a weight lift off her chest, relieved that Mr. Jasper Sr. was alright.
Mr. Cooper soon returned. "Dinner's ready, Mr. Jasper Sr., Mrs. Mia Jasper."
"Come on, Mia!" Mr. Jasper Sr. said excitedly, taking her hand. "Let's eat!"
Mia smiled, following him to the dining room. "How's your health been lately, Grandpa? Are you taking your blood pressure medication on time?"
"Don't worry, Mia. I'm not going anywhere until I see you and Hunter's baby!" he joked with a grin.
Mia frowned, her tone affectionate but firm, "Grandpa, you'll live a long life. Don't talk about dying."
Mr. Jasper Sr. chuckled. "I just need to live long enough to meet your baby. Anything longer, and I'll just be a burden."
Mia held his hand gently, her voice soft. "If you're not around, there won't be anyone left who truly cares for me."
She had family, but all they had for her was resentment not love.
Mr. Jasper Sr.'s chest tightened at her words. "Alright, live to be a hundred, just for you!"
He thought to himself how sad it was that Mia's own family didn't care for her, and his own grandson didn't appreciate her.
"For the sake of your health, you need to keep taking your medication, eat well, and avoid getting up Mia said quickly, helping Mr. Jasper Sr. stand. "Come on, let's eat!"
As they sat down, Hunter walked in.
Seeing the two of them laughing and chatting, he frowned. "Grandpa, at your age, you're still pretending to pass out?"
He had been genuinely worried about his grandfather's health, thinking he had really fainted. But it was all
an act.
Mr. Jasper Sr. shot him a glare and huffed, "You knew I didn't want to see her, but you brought her
anyway.
If I hadn't pretended to pass out, I'd have to sit there and watch her ridiculous display. It's exhausting!"
He had made it clear for a long time that he didn't like Jenna, and he had even forbidden her from coming around. But every time he invited Hunter and Mia over, Jenna found a way to tag along. He couldn't understand how Jenna could be so shameless.
"Jenna is your granddaughter-in-law too. If Mia can come, why can't she?" Hunter retorted.
