Jenna's texts were always the same, talking about how she was pregnant and how much Hunter loved her. Mia had grown tired of reading them.
It wasn't like she was the one refusing to get a divorco Hunter was the one who wouldn't agree. And if Mia thought about it, Hunter didn't seem to love Jenna as much as she claimed. After all, despite Jenna being pregnant, Hunter still hadn't asked for a divorce. If a man truly loved a woman, how could he bear to let her be called a mistress?
As she was lost in thought, her phone rang, snapping her back to reality. Glancing at the number on the screen, Mia sighed softly and answered.
"It's my birthday today, and I wanted to invite you to dinner at the Green Tea Restaurant in Century Plaza," Jenna's soft voice came through the line, sounding as pleasant as always. Mias
smiled slightly. "There's no need for dinner. I'll have a delivery service send you a birthday gift later."
Jenna was always trying to make her presence known, so Mia figured it was time to respond.
"Hunter's already given me a birthday gift. You two are still married, so you don't need to send me anything separately." Jenna's voice was sweet, but Mia could hear the underlying boast about the gift Hunter had given her.
"Oh, are you talking about the Jasper family bracelet?" Mia replied, her tone light. "That bracelet belongs to me. You're just borrowing it for a few days, so don't forget to return it. Otherwise, I'll have to come and * get it myself." Mia's mood unexpectedly brightened. Jenna had been flaunting her possession of something that wasn't hers, and Mia wasn't about to let it
slide.
Jenna, clearly irritated, shot back, "That bracelet was given to the lady of the Jasper family! How could it possibly be yours?
Jenna hadn't expected Mia to actually demand the bracelet back. After all, she had worked so hard to get it, and there was no way she was going to give it up.
Mia, still unbothered, let out a soft laugh, her tone calm. "That bracelet was a gift from Grandpa, and unless I gave permission, Hunter had no right to give it to you. That makes it theft."
She paused for effect before adding. "That bracelet is valued at over a million dollars. Under the Criminal Law, theft of property exceeding that amount qualifies as grand larceny, which can result in a felony conviction. You could be facing a sentence of ten years or more, possibly even life imprisonment, along with substantial fines or asset forfeiture. So, are you sure you don't want to return it?"Exclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.
Jenna had only intended to provoke Mia and spark a fight between her and Hunter, but now she found herself at a loss for words, her face paling with anger. You're truly vicious, Mia!"
Mia smiled wider, her beautiful eyes curving into crescent moons. "Yes, I am. So, how about you stop trying to get my attention? I'm telling you again, if you want to be with Hunter, go after him directly. In this marriage, he's the one in control. Pressuring me won't get you anywhere."
Mia felt generous, offering Jenna the solution on a silver platter. If she still couldn't figure it out, well, that

was her own problem.
After hanging up, Mia returned to the office.
Her assistant, Mandy, hurried over with a stack of files Mia, I just got off the phone with the client, and I've confirmed all the details."
Mia brushed a strand of hair behind her ear and smiled, "Great job. Dinner's on me tonight"
"Mia, I just heard some gossip! The big boss is treating everyone to dinner tonight, and there's supposed to be a big announcement. Do you think they're going to announce your promotion to team leader?" Mandy, though not the most skilled at her job, had a great attitude, which was why Mia kept her around.
Mia paused, surprised. "Promoting me to team leader?
Mandy nodded eagerly. "Since our team leader resigned last month to become a stay-at-home mom, the position's been open, and everyone thinks you're the most qualified for the promotion!" Chapter 0006
