Chapter Twenty-nine
Chapter Twenty-nine
Audrey had woken up early that morning, even before her mother and handmaid, to prepare for her departure to the palace.
She took her bath, got dressed and sat down waiting for their arrival that morning. She would have loved to come out but she was trying hard to avoid her mother.
She wanted to observe some quietness first. she felt relieved that her mother had not nagged at her yet that morning.
“My lady,”
“Your highness,” Audrey could hear the servants outside greet.
Her mother was there. Speak of the devil and he would show up right in front of you.
The door opened, and the impact of the force used in pushing it made the door hit the wall creating a loud sound and causing Audrey to flinch.
“Mother,” she said as her mother began to walk towards her.
Tabitha was dressed up like she was attending a ball. Audrey could not help but wonder if she was actually attending a ball.
“I see you are dressed,” her eyes raked down Audrey’s body and nodded slightly.
Some female servants immediately went to her, trying to remove her clothes.
“Stop it!” she struggled, wiggling around. “Leave me be!” she yelled, pushing them away with all her might.
“What do you want, mother?” she asked narrowing her gaze at her.
She used to wonder how Cassy felt to be tormented and controlled by her mother but now she was experiencing it, she could not help but wonder how Cassy had coped.
Little wonder she left the house as quickly as she could when she got the opportunity to.
“You are dressed so shabbily and you are asking me what I want?” there was a frown on her mother’s face now.
“You are going to the palace not a farm and you are going to face Cassy!” she brought her voice lower as she pronounced the last words. “How do you plan to show her what you have got?”
Audrey stood up looking away. She was tired of hearing her mother speak like Cassy was a competition and it was beginning to affect her thoughts.
She had not slept well the previous night because her mind kept bringing back her mother’s words.
But still, she was not going to be interested in what her sister owned. She deserved it.
“Get her dressed!” Tabitha ordered and the servants began to take off Audrey’s clothes.
After fighting with them for a while and never succeeding, she finally succumbed.
Audrey looked at her new self in the mirror. She looked like those overly caked princess puppets in the circus.
She looked beautiful but this was not her style.
“We are done, my lady,” they announced as soon as they finished, curtseying.
Tabitha who had been looking outside through the window in a daze brought her head in and faced them.
A smile slowly appeared on her face as soon as she saw her daughter.
“This is it,” she nodded her head in satisfaction.
She walked up to her daughter and held her by her shoulders then made her turn to face the mirror again.
“You can take her trunk into the carriage,” Tabitha ordered, dismissing them.
She turned to the mirror with a small smile on her face.
“Audrey, you have to understand that I’m doing all these because of you for I want the best for you and nothing less,” she told her, staring into her eyes through the mirror.
“I would not speak about this again until you come to me. It’s a promise,” she assured her and squeezed her shoulder before walking away.
As soon as she was outside the room, a smirk appeared on her face.
She had seen her daughter’s reaction and loved it. There was now evidence to prove that Lia was correct.
If only her daughter was as vast as her handmaid.
“My lady,” Lia curtsied.
Tabitha’s smile grew wider.
“You were right, Lia. It’s only a matter of time,” she told her and a smile appeared on Lia’s face too.
Back in the room, Audrey was still sitting in front of the mirror, staring at her reflection in the mirror. Her mother’s words resounded in her ear.
She looked at the door and looked back at the mirror. Was that her mother?
She was still in a daze. She still could not believe that her mother was the one who spoke nicely to her.
For a long time now, she had never seen her mother speak as nice as that.
Her mother was going to stop pestering her now? What about the thoughts she having now?
“Audrey! What are you waiting for!? It’s time!” she heard her handmaid call from outside the door.
“I– I am coming!” she yelled back.
She took one last look at herself in the mirror before leaving the room.
She got to the front of the house to meet her father and mother waiting for her.
“I would be back, father,” she said, standing in front of her father. “Please take it easy with my mother. I am aware that she is one of a kind.”
Alec laughed and held his daughter’s hand.
“I would,” he uttered and glanced at Tabitha who was trying to hide the smile on her face.
He touched her cheeks and let her hand with a smile on his face.
Audrey went to Tabitha who escorted her to the carriage.
“I am always here if you need anything, my child,” Tabitha told her, holding her hand.
Audrey nodded her head. “Thank you, mother,”
Tabitha leaned into her and whispered into her ear, causing Audrey’s eyes to go wide.
Tabitha smiled and patted her daughter’s shoulder but Audrey was still in a daze.
“Now, go,” she whispered, tapping her shoulder and jolting her out of her reverie.
Audrey nodded her head repeatedly and entered into the carriage.
She stuck her head out of the window immediately after the carriage took off.
“Be alert,” her mother mouthed.
Inside the carriage, Audrey’s head was flooded with her mother’s sermons.
She exhaled, trying to process her mother’s last words.
“Be alert,” what did she mean?
And as they grew closer to the palace, the words her mother had whispered into her ear last played in her head.
“This is your chance, seize it,”
Truthfully, She had always thought that she was the one who was going to find her mate before Cassy as she felt that she was the one who was always lucky.
And so, the first year when she turned 18 and was able to attend the ball her mother had made sure that Cassy was not going to attend and she was against it.
Tabitha was sure that her daughter was going to find her mate that year, but it turned out to be the opposite.
For three years, Tabitha made sure that Cassy did not attend the ball. She wanted to make sure that her daughter found her mate first but Alec decided that that was not going to happen this time and now it turned out that Cassy had a mate and she did not.
Tabitha was upset about this. It seemed like she knew as she had done everything possible then to make sure that Cassy did not attend the ball.
Audrey exhaled and looked upwards. Has the moon goddess forgotten about her?
Her life has been perfect until now. She never had to worry about anything but now she had to worry about her mother always nagging.
She felt so unfortunate now.
Audrey pushed the curtain covering the window to one side and peeped. Her eyes were greeted with a beautiful tall building in the middle of large land, surrounded by a large fence.
“Wow,” she mouthed, her eyes scanning around the place.
This was where she was going to live.
A small smile appeared on her lips but disappeared when a thought came to her mind.
She was only going to live here for a while but Cassy was here to stay…
She was not just here to stay, she was the mate to the alpha. The future Luna of the night walker pack.
Audrey quickly snapped out of her thoughts.
No. She was not going to think of this. This was not her thinking.
The carriage was almost at the gate of the palace when she saw Cassy standing with two other people behind her.
Audrey’s lips curved into a smile but it slowly disappeared when she saw him coming out of the palace.
The last time she saw him was almost two years ago. He was now more handsome and had the aura of the alpha he was.
The carriage stopped in front of the palace. The footman got down from the carriage and placed a stool to assist her in getting down from the carriage.
She was preparing to get down when she heard him speak. This content © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
“I have been waiting for you to join me for breakfast, sweet. What is taking you so long?” She wanted to focus on his husky voice but his words penetrated deep into her.
Were they that close?
She was going to wait for Cassy’s response so that she could draw a conclusion.
Just when she thought she was able to get rid of those thoughts this was happening. How could she help herself?
Audrey began to get down from the carriage when she heard Cassy’s reply.
“Oh, I had to meet with my sister and luckily she is here now,” she spoke with a smile on her face, causing Audrey’s movement to still.
Looking at her sister, she noticed that she looked happy. Something she had almost never seen back at home.
“If you want to do something, start from somewhere,” her mother had whispered into her ear when she was about to enter the carriage.
Audrey was so slow to understand what they meant.
“What do you mean?”
“Hug him as soon as you see him,”
Her mother’s advice was the last she wanted to take but seeing the looks on their faces especially the smile on Cassy’s face and the look of admiration in Kai’s eyes, she felt something twist in her.
With her mother’s words in mind, she plastered a smile on her face and sighed before running into his arms.
“I finally met you!” she exclaimed, wrapping her arms around him.
Initially, that was all the planned to do but then she found herself rubbing her breast all over his chest.
She had always wanted to see him since she was young. How much she adored him.
She had seen him a few times and always counted it as luck whenever she did.
Just then, she felt him push her away causing her to stagger backwards. Her eyes were wide on her head.
She looked up at him and found him with a frown on his face.
He was smiling just a few seconds ago and now his face was scrunched up. How quick is he to switch emotions?
Kai glared at the lady in front of him annoyed. He had ladies flocking around him but he disliked when they threw themselves at men.
He was not going to quickly judge this one, he had to know what her true intentions were.
Cassy had a fake smile plastered on her face while Joanna and Emma were surprised by Audrey’s action. They were never fazed by the alpha’s, he was unpredictable.
“Ah. I apologize for that, he just doesn’t like having body contact with others,” she told Audrey who was still trying to recover from the shock she was in.
Cassy was not angry with Audrey for she knew that Audrey had always fancied him so meeting him was a great thing for her.
But for Kai’s reaction, she was unhappy with him. How could he just react like that?
“Can we go inside, love? I have been waiting for long and I am beginning to starve,” he spoke in a low voice, a small smile on his face but it was loud enough for Audrey to hear.
Cassy’s face heated up. She nodded and looked away trying to hide her heated cheeks.
Audrey was annoyed. How could they be showing off in front of her?
“We are about to have breakfast, Audrey, would you like to join us?” she asked.
She was still trying to calm herself down as she was still affected by his words.
Audrey opened her mouth to reply but was cut off by Kai.
“She does not have to,” he replied, his eyes never leaving Cassy.
Audrey’s eyebrows furrowed in annoyance. What was he trying to do?
Cassy pinched him on his side and glared at him before turning to Audrey.
“He could be like this sometimes. Join us, he doesn’t have a say,” she said, smiling forcibly.
Kai stared at her dumbfounded. Goddess, what did he agree on?
