NIRVANA
“What’s going on?” I asked everyone when they received texts, except me and Zarah.
When they read the message and looked at me, I raised my brows, waiting for them to break the tension inside the bunker.
“What is it?” Zarah asked.
Instead of a reply, Knight growled. His eyes glowed as he showed us his phone’s screen with my picture.
I widened my eyes at how my picture looked- like a mug shot. “Why is my picture on your phone like I’m some kind of a criminal?”
“It’s an APB, a BOLO to all werewolves. Fuck.” His face was red in anger. His jaw clenched, and his phone almost cracked in his grasp as he stared at me, so pissed off and dangerous.
“Why would the Council make this sudden move?” Lennox asked.
“So, I’m wanted now? They didn’t even know me, and I’m not a werewolf.”
“When Knight let you become a part of his pack, he sent your profile to the council as a registration. That’s mandatory,” Zarah explained, but it still didn’t make any sense unless they knew something we didn’t.
“Every werewolf, including rogues, is listed in the Werewolf Council as part of our world order. When you and Knight became mates, you officially became the Luna of this pack, and you and him are married in their eyes,” Kailin added.
“The Werewolf Council put you on the wanted list because they probably want to take you in.” Lennox’s theory seemed rational, but the council just pissed me off.
“Why the fuck didn’t they ask me first?” Knight dialed a number on his phone and waited to be received from the other line. “Over my dead body. I’m not handing my mate to them to be slaughtered.”
“Calm down. We’ll make a plan,” Lennox said. Suddenly, he sounded like a father when he was mad at us for not keeping him in the loop about our plans.
“Fuck.” Nobody answered, and he became furious. “Kailin, send a message to all pack members that I-” He blew a breath.
I could feel he was struggling inside and out, no matter how he tried to be strong in front of everyone. I could feel him breaking.
“Hey.” I was about to place my hand on his chest to calm him, but his fist just collided against the wall, startling me and everyone.
“Our plan is over. How do we fight thousands of werewolves coming after my mate? Any moment from now, the vineyards and my territory will be flooded with werewolves to get their hands on my mate, aiming for rewards.”
“And what’s that?”
“Half a mil,” McKaye said.
“I’m worth five hundred grand? Damn. I should go and turn myself in and get my reward.” My sarcasm didn’t impress them, especially our alpha. They all stared at me as if I just turned mad.
“Are you fucking kidding me right now?” He glared at me as if ready to chew my head off.
“No.” I glared back. “I’m fu-” I looked at Lennox. “Apology for this. I’m fucking terrified. I’m fucking terrified for everyone in this pack getting hurt defending from those dicks to get to me. I won’t ever allow them to risk their lives for me. I’d rather turn myself in than any of you get hurt in the end.”
“And I’d rather die than let their hands on you.”
“Good luck, Alpha. Try fighting their mercenaries and rogues at one time. I won’t let you do that. I won’t-” When my chin trembled, I looked away. “This is bad. This is really bad, and it’s getting out of our hands.” I stepped away from them as I wiped my tears. “What was I thinking that I had a chance of defeating that monster when I had to face another monster?”
“Hey.” I felt Knight’s hands on my arms. “We’ll figure this out. You said it yourself. We’re stronger together, and we can’t let him win.”
“You should call a conference with your allies, Knight,” Lennox suggested. At least one of us was still thinking straight.
“That’s a good idea,” Zarah said, “in the meantime, I can double the shield around your vineyards.”
I sniffled as I faced them. “Kaleb, tell everyone has families here, women and children, to get out of the vineyard. Anyone who can defend themselves can stay, but it’s not obligatory. It should be their choice-” I stopped when they just stared at me as if I turned into a blue alien president of the confederacy until I realized the alpha was around, and I just gave him an order. “Sorry, I shouldn’t have given you the order.”
“Go on. That was a good idea,” Knight said, backing me up.
“Are you sure?” I looked at Knight. The ring around in his eyes almost glowed again.
“You’re the Luna. Everyone will listen to you.”
“Right. We will shut down any operation in the vineyards and winery. If you want to protect me, I’d be honored. If you wish to go, I won’t hold any grudges. I don’t want you to feel obligated to save my butt. As much as you want to end this plague, I want you to save yourselves. If you stay for our alpha, I’ll be indebted to all of you and do my best to protect you all. Thank you.”
Kailin pressed a button on her phone. She sent and done.
“You recorded what I said?”
“Yeah. Do you have a problem with that?” She arched a brow.
“I could have given a better speech?” I grinned at her even if I was beyond terrified.
“How are you so cool about this while my tail is literally shaking right now?”
“I’m terrified, Luka, and the council? They’re all bunch of assholes.” I turned to Knight. “Do you trust me?”
“Do you really have to ask me that? Yes.”
“Good. Give me the number of the council.”
“What are you gonna do?” I instantly saw the hesitation in his eyes because he probably had anticipated that I would act impulsively.
“Trust me. Don’t worry, I’m not turning myself in.”
“Good, because you have to go through me first,” he said confidently, and then these guys followed him without a doubt.
“Really?” I smirked.
Zarah shook her head in annoyance.
“At least we try our best,” McKaye said.
“Knight, the allies,” Lennox reminded him.
Knight gave me the council’s number, and I dialed it on my phone when no one picked up from Knight’s number.
It was picked up right away as if monitoring my call logs.
“Yes? Who am I speaking to?” a man answered, sounding as old as Lennox.
“You know who I am. I’m sure my number is already registered in my profile, but let me introduce myself. “I’m Blakely Nirvana Woodrow Thorne, a human mated to Alpha Knight Blackwell.”
“I know who you are?”
“Then you shouldn’t have asked in the first place. One question that I’m dying to know the answer to. Why didn’t you accept a sitdown with Alpha Knight?”
He was about to reply, but they just pissed me off by putting my name on their wanted list.
“Hold that thought, whoever you are.”
“I’m-”
“I don’t give a shit. Why did you put a half-million-dollar bounty on my head? Do you want my life or what I have?”
“It’s the head of the council.” Knight mouthed. “Victor Fredrick.”
“I need my family to be safe.”
“What about the lives of the others? How cruel and selfish you are. And that doesn’t help your case, council, but take this; I will come for you and kill you myself if you don’t do as I say. Call it off now, Victor. Don’t turn me into a killer.”
“I can’t. By this time, you’re already surrounded. It’s already a matter of time before you end up in the council prison cell.”
“We’ll see about that. You must be at home right now, right?”Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
“Turn yourself in, Miss Thorne, before your territory turns into a blood bath.”
“Come in, get me yourself, asshole.” I ended the call.
“Why did you do that?” Knight was more pissed off than me.
“Does he have a family?”
“He has a wife and a son. His son runs the council in Montreal. He and his wife live alone in his estate in New York. Why?”
“I think he was forced to put a bounty on my head. I’m still wondering why Cyrius did all this but did not come after me here in the vineyards if this area could be the power grid of his power.” I turned to Zarah. “He can’t get inside this land, can he? He infected Gage to lure us out and leave this place. He’s not afraid I could kill him, but he’s waiting for me to come to him so he can come and take over this place.”
“One question.” Kaleb raised his hand. “Can he come in even if this place is shielded?”
“If he has hundreds or thousands of minions trying to break in, he can tear the shield down easily, and let’s face it, he’s more powerful than anyone I know,” Zarah answered but ignored my question. Why?
Until I realized something, making me laugh out loud and shaking my head in amusement. “Well, shit, Zarah.”
“Took you so long figuring it out.”
