Nirvana just left my office. When I thought everything was heading in the right direction, her stupid ex couldn’t fucking understand what moving on meant.

“Nirvana, wait!” The door almost slammed into my face.

“Where is she going?” My assistant had always the wrong timing.

“Give me the coffee.” I grabbed them from her and followed Nirvana downstairs.

I called her name again, but she was pissed off and chose to ignore me. “Nirvana, please? Just hold on a sec.”

She turned to me. For a second, admiration filled my chest as I saw the unyielding impulse and disobedience in her eyes. She would be a great Luna in the future. “I’m not talking to you.”

“I know. I’m sorry. You have to understand one thing about our nature, especially me,” I whispered so everyone around here wouldn’t think of me going nuts.

“God, I’m so sick of hearing the word nature!” She hissed at me, eyes filling with rage.

“I’m very possessive and jealous. It’s not really what I wanted to, but I can’t control my emotions, especially when my wolf senses a threat; he’d be on edge.”

“Is that so?” She glowered.

“And I haven’t gone out for a run in days. It helps my wolf relax and helps me think as well.”

“Then why didn’t you go out for a run?”

“I’m still catching up on the work I left.”

“Whatever. Give me the coffee. Tell Kailin I’m waiting in her car.”

I gave her the coffee. “It’s hot outside. Do you have her car key?”

“I’ll be fine.”

“You can wait for her in my office.”

“I’m not going back there.”

I drew a deep breath. “Wait in the waiting area then.”

“No. She’s here.”

“No. I have plans.”

“With whom?”

She glared at me. “Alone.”

“Can I talk to you for a second, Kailin?”

“Sure.” Kailin gave the car key to Nirvana.

“Don’t let her drive.”

“Of course.”

“And why not?” Nirvana asked me.

“Because you’re my mate.”

She rolled her eyes before heading to the door.

“What is wrong with you?”

I faced Kailin. “What do you mean?”

“You should be touring her around your office building, introducing her to your employee to ward off women exposing their cleavage and thighs on you.”

“We were good until her ex called her. I snapped, and she was pissed at me. I answered the call and threatened her ex.”

“That served that idiot right.”

“Don’t worry. I already apologized.”

“But I don’t see she will accept your apology anytime soon.”

“I know.” I slipped my hands in my pockets. “I asked her to have dinner with me, and she turned me down. Flat.”

Kailin hid her smile, but she burst out laughing. “Sorry, but I think you just found your match.”

“Not funny.”

“Well, there’s one thing you can help, and maybe she’ll reconsider that dinner date.”

“What do you have exactly in mind?”

“Give me your car key?”

“Why? You have your car.”

“For an alpha and a brilliant CEO, sometimes you’re so dumb.”

“I don’t get you.”

“She came here for you, and she’s your mate, yet you never visited her, brought her flowers, or took her out. If you’d only seen her reaction when we drove through the vineyards? It was priceless, Knight. If you really want this relationship to work out, man, get your head out of your ass because she’s still human, and she’s not going to wait for you to make a move even if she feels the mating pull. Don’t be overconfident because she feels something about you and is your mate. Don’t wait until she moves on and be with somebody else.”

“The fuck she will.”

“Then do something.”

“Okay.” I drew a deep breath. “Wait here. I’ll go get the key.”

“You know she wants me to take her to a bicycle store? She can’t be walking to her job. That’s far for humans. And gee, alpha, she’s our future Luna.”

“I got it,” I said irritably as I left her. I couldn’t take more unsolicited advice from her and her twin.

“You’re still here.” I found Jada in my office, dropping another file. I opened my desk drawer and grabbed a car key.

“So, how long have you been dating her?”

I inwardly groaned. “Just recently, but I’m marrying her. That’s for sure.”

“She’s kinda-”

“What?” I snapped at her. “Be careful with your adjective, Jada. You know I don’t date my employees, and I have no plan on sleeping with any one of you. I practice fraternization policy at full length.”

Jada asked me for a drink once, and I turned her down, even if it was just a friendly date. I didn’t want to give everyone the impression that it was okay, but her body language at that time said otherwise.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Blackwell. I meant no offense.”

“That’s exactly what you wanted to say. I wouldn’t date her if I were not sure I wouldn’t put my ring on her finger. Nirvana checked the list of the woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with, and I love her the way she is. I enjoy watching her being herself and not wasting her time in the mirror. She dresses just perfectly without showing much skin, but she’s the sexiest and the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. And trust me when I say this: I’d rather live alone than not marry her.”

I found Kailin waiting and listening to every word I said the entire time.

“Proud of you, boss.” She had a smile from ear to ear.

“Don’t let her wait long. I’ll call her later.”

“Right. Good job.”

I called Nirvana on my way home, but she decided to ignore me instead of answering it. So, I made my night productive and ran to the woods. I linked Kaleb, McKaye, and Luka to join me.

I shifted into my gray wolf with black and gray patches on my belly. My wolf was very satisfied to feel the earth under the pads of his feet as I set my paws on the ground. It had been days since my last run before I met Nirvana.

The weather was good, and I could not sense any threats in the perimeters.

We relaxed a little bit, and my pack members could run freely and catch some rabbits in the woods. Though I don’t feel like feeding raw meat anymore, I was still up for a hunt from time to time. It was part of who we were- we hunt.

The scents of familiar male wolves invaded my nostrils, and friendly growls followed behind me as I pitched forward. A small pup raced across the darkness, Kaleb’s little brother, Azrel, who just shifted recently. And Maddox’s dark brown wolf followed.

Once we reached almost the end of my territory, I slowed my pace, and so did Kaleb, tagging his little brother at the back of his neck. Luka, McKaye, and Maddox joined us.

After a few minutes, we ran back towards the vineyards, where there was a big tree. We made a small cabin to stuff our clothes and use them after our run.

“Tell the twins to make a scout in the south. Report to me if they notice an unfamiliar scent in that area.” I went to my locker to grab my sweatpants and a sweatshirt.

“Why? You heard any attack recently?” Luka put a shirt on.

“No. Just a precaution.” I could feel their eyes on me.

“Aren’t the barbwire still up, Alpha?” Maddox asked.

“Yes. Nothing to worry about. I’ll let you all know if I heard another pack attack.”

“I can join the twins,” Kaleb suggested.

“No. They have to apply what they learn. Put Maddox in charge.” I put my clothes on and turned to them.

“You mean to punish them for getting into trouble last week,” McKaye emphasized.

“Something like that.”

I left the cabin and headed towards the pack house instead of going home. I hadn’t reached the stone paths but caught an alluring scent in the breeze. My heart beat faster the closer I got to the scent.

Then she was there, alone under the tree, sitting on the bench. She was so lost with something in her hands that she didn’t even notice that I was already behind her.

My eyes instinctively landed on the charcoal sketch of the vineyards and the ample amount of her cleavage.

“You’re good.”

She yelped in her seat, hand on her chest. Then she glanced up at me, glaring. “What the hell? Are you trying to give me a heart attack? Don’t sneak out like that again, especially when I have a knife.”

“You never heard me coming?” I joined her on the bench. She had a bottle of Rosé and a half-full glass.

“No.” I grabbed the glass and sipped it.

“That’s mine.”

“And mine, too.”

“Why are you here, cocky alpha?”

“You ignored my call. You didn’t join them over dinner, yet you’re here having alone time for yourself.” I met her gaze. Her eyes shone in the night. She was damn beautiful, and my fingers itched to feel the softness of her cheeks.

“I told you, I love to have a lone time for myself. It helps me think. You should learn to respect that.”

“You’re good at sketching. Not planning on making it a living?”

She snorted. “Shouldn’t you be in your castle talking to your teapot?”

I smiled as I used my thumb to wipe the dirt on the bridge of her nose. “You have charcoal here. That is if you come with me.”

She blushed and said, “In your dream, alpha.”
