Alpha Knight’s Cursed Mate

KNIGHT

My stomach twisted a knot as I watched Nirvana asleep in the confinement at the Night Stalker Pack.

I couldn’t believe I had just done what I had done to save her. I knew she would probably not forgive me for what I’d done, but I made the toughest decision, and she left me no choice.

“Shit. Is that-?” Califf stared at me in disbelief. “What the fuck, Knight? What did you just do?”

With my chest clenching, I looked at him. “Saving my wife.”

“I’m confused. When you called me asking for my help, I did not expect you to do this.”

“Babe-” Shadow smiled widely. “Who’s in the confinement?”

“You’re not gonna believe it. Come and see, baby.”

“Holy shit.” Her eyes widened as she stared down from the two-way mirror and stared at me. “Nirvana? Did you lock up Nirvana? Why in the hell did you do that?”

“I have reasons.” I crossed my arms over my chest, determined to prove what I did was best for my mate.

Nirvana hadn’t woke up, and I knew she would be terrified thinking she was held in some secret government facility.

“Oh, Goddess. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I was in this very room twice. Califf locked me up.”

“You didn’t wanna submit, baby, and the second time, you gave me the cold shoulder for weeks.”

“You were an asshole.” She playfully elbowed him. “Man, you’re in deep, deep trouble. She’s not going to forgive you, Knight. Good luck explaining to her. And how long do you suppose to lock her up here when we have a demonic enemy to fight? Without her, we can’t defeat him.”

“I don’t know. I want to do some research first, maybe some experimental military weapon we could buy and use to kill Cyrius. I just can’t let her get herself killed, Shadow. This is my wife, my mate, and knowing she’s going to die fighting that son of a bitch, I can’t. For the love of Goddess, I’d rather die.”

“Hold on. What am I missing here?” Califf looked at me and back to his mate.

Zarah came in. She helped me portaled us from Paris to Califf’s territory. “Knight read an old book that the only way to kill Cyrius is through Nirvana with the use of the dagger, but Nirvana might not survive in the process.”

“An old book? What kind of old book?” Califf asked.

“An old book Alpha Frye gave us.”

“Do you think that’s a kind of prophecy, and do you believe what’s written in the book?”

“It seems fitting. I saw how the dagger killed an infected werewolf. It just turned to ashes.”

“When was this?” Zarah asked.

“While we were at Kain’s old cabin. I was out for a run, and she followed me. I killed a rogue, and she killed an infected.”

“Maybe it’s prophesied, Knight. Nirvana is powerful. She can teleport and can knock down many werewolves at once. She even broke the shield. And the spirit warrior inside her was protecting her from any harm.”

“What do you mean was? And now?”

Shadow looked at Califf. “He got mad when he found out what was in the book. He shifted and ran like his ass on fire. In short, he lost control and fell off the cliff. If it was not for Nirvana taking all the pain and sacrificing something for him, Knight might be dead by now. See how powerful she was, but by saving him, she just became vulnerable. She got scratched by a werewolf but healed herself.”

“That’s why Nirvana might not survived because of you.” Zarah pointed at me. “But I know she’d rather die than let you die like that. And now you just locked her up, and she might not take it well.”

“I know that feeling, man,” Califf said, patting my back. “When I tried saving my mate over her wolf, she hated me for so long.”

“Gee. I did not hate you, alphasshole. I just hated what you did, and I tried to do something for myself. I trained and made sure I could still defend myself without my gift and my wolf, but it really hurt. And I know what she’s going to feel once she wakes up.”

“So what’s your plan?” Califf turned to me. “Are you sure she can’t break the shield?”

“There’s only one way to find out,” Zarah said.

All of a sudden, Nirvana stirred. She woke up and jolted to sit on the bed. Her eyes wandered around the confinement.

The solitary had wolfsbane spray and a silver-plated bar behind the walls, and it had an automatic lock when the alarm went off. It was impressive.

Nirvana got up from bed. I took off the boots, and Zarah kept them away from her.

“You should let her know she’s okay, or she goes crazy and tear this building apart,” Califf said.

“Hello? Is anybody there?” she talked wryly.

“Poor thing,” said Shadow. “I can’t watch this, Knight. I know you’re trying to save her, but not like this. You just broke her trust and betrayed her.” The words trust and betray just stabbed me in the chest.

“Hey! Can anyone hear me?” She took a step away from the bed, wary, and then took three more steps.

At the corner of my eye, Zarah shook her head. “She’s smart. She’s gonna figure it out I’m involved, and she’s gonna hate me, Knight. I swear to Goddess, you and you.”

She pointed at Califf and me. “Are just so stupid when it comes to their mates. Stupid alphas.” She walked away, shaking her head, went to the door, and punched the codes.

Alarmed, I asked quickly, “Zarah, what are you doing?”

“I’m not doing this.” She glared at me. “I’m going to tell her that this is your idea. I’m saving my ass.” She pushed the door open.

“Oh, my God. Thank God you’re here.” Nirvana ran towards Zarah only to be thrown back to the bed.

I startled, clenching my jaw hard as I watched her groan in pain.

She quickly got up, narrowing her eyes at her. “What the hell, Zarah? Did you just lock me up?”

“This is not my idea.”

“It’s Knight? I saw you before I passed out.”

“I know, Nirvana. I’m sorry. He called me to portal both of you, and I had no idea he was gonna do this.”

“Where is he? Take down this invisible wall, Zarah, please. Why are you doing this to me? I trusted you.”

I looked down as guilt twisted my stomach.

“I told you, man. This is not going to end well for the both of you.”

I looked at Califf. “At least I know she’s gonna live.”

“Even if she hates you? What if she will reject you, Knight? You know what it does to us. It could kill us and our wolves.”

“Hey, asshole!” Nirvana just yelled. “I know you’re watching me.” She searched for the cameras in the room until she found the two-way mirror. “Knight, asshole! You betrayed me. I thought we were in this together. I thought you loved me, but you took me to Paris to make me feel special? You drugged me, Knight. You don’t do that to someone you love. You broke my trust, but I can forgive you if you let me out of here.”

I walked inside the room.

She looked at me with eyes filled with pain and fury. “How could you do this to me? I’m your mate, Knight. And we’re married.” She showed me her rings. “These don’t mean anything to you?”

“I can’t let you die, Nirvana. I’m doing this to save you.”

“What about our people and others? How could you be so selfish? How could you watch them die? I can’t. I saw how you all died. Either he manipulated what he’d shown me, I can’t go through that again. And I am the only one who can end it. You know that.”

“I’ll find another way. I’m so sorry, my love, but I’d rather die trying than lose you.”

“Don’t do this, Knight, please? I’m begging you.” Tears rolled down her cheeks, and she slammed her fists against the shield spell, only throwing her back again.

“You’ll be safe here, sweetheart.”

“No!”

Shadow gasped beside me as we watched Nirvana’s eyes glow and transform her into something else I’d never seen before.Property © NôvelDrama.Org.

“Shit.” I hadn’t seen Asina’s true nature until today. Honestly, I’d never been scared by any creatures, but what Nirvana had was not entirely a creature. Her entire body was glowing in blue flames, shaped like a wolf, eyes slanting, claws longer than anything I’d ever seen.

“Take this down, Knight, or I will do it myself.” She snarled at me, exposing her blazing fangs.

“Shit! Is this shield going to hold, Zarah?” Califf asked as he stepped back, protecting his mate.

“I have no idea. It’s never tested with this kind.”

“Vana, calm down,” Shadow said, trying to talk to her.

She turned back to me, still pissed off. “Don’t make me do something I will regret, Knight, because if you don’t let me go, I will reject you and file a divorce once I get the chance to get out of here.”
