“Of course not,” Nelly growled, her voice low and tinged with a growl.
“That’s it. Of course, we are still friends and packmates,” Nelly responded, her words laced with a hint of sharpness.
After a brief hesitation, Zachary asked, his voice laced with suspicion, “Then, why didn’t you answer my call?”
“Call?” Nelly snarled, her eyes narrowing.
“I called you this morning, but you didn’t pick up-”
Upon hearing that, Nelly’s senses heightened. She explained through gritted teeth, “I had a small incident at the hospital last night and twisted my ankle. I dropped my phone and it shattered into pieces, and I haven’t had the time to buy another one.”
Zachary was finally able to smile casually, his lips curling into a wolfish grin. “I see. I understand now.”
Nelly bared her fangs in a toothy smile. “I’ll change my phone after I shift ends later.”
Zachary nodded, a glint of mischief in his eyes, and said with a smirk, “Let me escort you upstairs, my dear wolf.”
“There’s no need-” Nelly began to protest.
“As packmates, how could I let you go up alone?” Zachary interjected, his voice firm and commanding.
Since Zachary said that, Nelly yielded, her eyes filled with a flicker of submission. “I’ll be trusting you with that task then.”
“It’s no trouble.” Zachary extended his hand, his claws glinting in the dim light; this time, Nelly didn’t reject his offer. With his support, they made their way upstairs, their steps resonating throughout the building.
Before Nelly reached the office, rumors that she was escorted by a powerful and captivating werewolf had spread like wildfire. Everyone rushed to the entrance, their eyes wide with excitement and wonder.
“Okay. You should head back now. If you continue walking in, there will be rumors,” Nelly warned, her voice dripping with caution.
“Why? Do the wolves in your pack gossip a lot?” Zachary inquired, amusement dancing in his eyes.
“It’s unimaginable.” Nelly could only use this word to describe it.
As they conversed, a female wolf pretended to pass by them, holding several beverages. Her eyes glimmered with envy upon seeing Nelly. “Alpha Nelly, who is this handsome wolf?”
“He’s a friend,” Nelly explained coolly.
“A friend? He’s really handsome!” the female wolf fawned.
Nelly’s lips curved slightly, revealing a hint of arrogance. “I’m also pretty good-looking.”
Her colleague was rendered speechless, her eyes widening in surprise.
Zachary couldn’t help but chuckle, the sound rumbling in his chest.
If someone else had boasted in this manner, others would have scorned them for their conceit or assumed it to be a jest. However, Nelly had said it with utmost confidence. Furthermore, given her striking beauty, it was impossible to accuse her of being narcissistic.
She sounded alluring when she said it.
At this moment, Nelly glanced at Zachary and said, her voice dripping with authority, “You should go. If you don’t leave, our entire pack will come out to gossip soon.”
“Are you ashamed of me?” Zachary uttered, his tone teasing.
“I didn’t mean that. I’m just worried that they will tear you to shreds,” Nelly teased him playfully.
As they conversed, Nelson and Alpha Kilian walked out of the office and saw them at the entrance. They looked like they were whispering to each other and displaying affectionate gestures.
Alpha Kilian’s brow furrowed for some unknown reason, his eyes narrowing in suspicion.
Nelson sensed the sudden chill in the air and silently raised his head to glance at Alpha Kilian. He noticed that the Alpha’s expression had darkened, his gaze penetrating and intense.
“Fine. I’ll take my leave first,” Zachary declared, his voice tinged with authority.
“Okay.” Nelly nodded, her eyes never leaving Alpha Kilian.
Just as Zachary was about to leave, Alpha Kilian strode over and said sarcastically, his voice dripping with contempt, “Nelly, I see that you have become more acquainted with your responsibilities.”
Hearing that, Zachary stopped in his tracks, his eyes narrowing as he turned around to face Alpha Kilian.
Nelly stared at him calmly, her gaze unwavering. “Are you trying to assert dominance over me now?”
“The project is still ongoing. I couldn’t find the person in charge. Is it wrong of me to make a remark?” Alpha Kilian rebutted, his voice laced with authority.
“Isn’t Lara the one who’s supposed to liaise with me? Why are you here, interfering?” Nelly questioned back, her voice sharp and challenging.
Seeing that Nelly and Alpha Kilian were having a face-off, Zachary spoke up, his voice calm but firm. “Do you guys have history?”
Both of them spoke at the same time. Nelly replied, her tone dripping with indifference, “We’re not close.”
“Of course,” Alpha Kilian responded coldly, a flicker of annoyance flashing across his eyes.
Alpha Kilian glanced at Nelly, his gaze darkening. “Not close, huh?”
“Not close,” Nelly reiterated firmly, her voice tinged with a hint of frost.
Zachary didn’t know the intricacies of their relationship, but he could sense the charged tension between them, the air buzzing with unspoken words.
He glanced at Alpha Kilian and extended his hand, his ragged claws glinting in the dim light. “Nice to meet you, Alpha Morris. I’ve heard a lot about you.”
“You know me?” Alpha Kilian’s brows shot up in surprise.
Zachary’s lips curled into a wolfish smile. “There’s no wolf in this pack who doesn’t know you.”
Seeing that he was polite and humble, Alpha Kilian reluctantly shook his hand, his grip firm and dominant.
“Nelly twisted her ankle. I met her at the hospital, so I escorted her back. I hope you understand,” Zachary continued, his voice filled with an air of authority.
Although Alpha Kilian didn’t like Zachary calling Nelly by her first name, his worry for her outweighed his annoyance. “You injured your leg?”
What does he look so concerned?
Nelly didn’t appreciate his concern as she replied nonchalantly, a hint of annoyance in her voice, “It’s nothing to worry about.”
“How did you injure it?” Alpha Kilian pressed, his voice demanding.Property belongs to Nôvel(D)r/ama.Org.
“I twisted it,” replied Nelly, her voice curt and cold.
“Why do you keep injuring yourself these days? If it’s not your hand, it’s your leg,” Alpha Kilian interrogated her, his tone accusatory.
His reaction mirrored Ben’s.
Nelly glanced at Alpha Kilian, her eyes flashing with a hint of defiance. “That’s right. I seem to have bad luck. You should stay away from me to avoid catching it.”
Her words cut like a blade. She was friendly and warm towards everyone except him.
Alpha Kilian scoffed coldly, his voice dripping with contempt. “I shouldn’t have bothered to ask.” With that, he spun around and stormed off in anger, his eyes burning with intensity.
Nelson immediately followed behind him, his gaze filled with concern. “Alpha Morris, let me escort you-”
Nelly breathed a sigh of relief, her shoulders relaxing as she glanced at Zachary. “Didn’t you have somewhere to be? You should go.”
“Then…” Zachary hesitated.
“Don’t worry. I’m fine,” Nelly reassured him, her voice firm and resolute.
Zachary nodded. “Then, I’ll give you a howl tonight.”
Nelly nodded in response, her eyes gleaming with appreciation.
After he left, she breathed another sigh of relief and walked towards the Programming Department, her steps resolute and confident.
At this moment, there were many wolves crowded around the entrance, their eyes filled with curiosity and intrigue. They had witnessed everything that happened just now.
When Nelly approached, they immediately dispersed, giving her space. Only those who were closer to her rushed over, their eyes filled with anticipation.
“Alpha Jackson, what happened over there just now?” Ross inquired, his voice filled with excitement.
Nelly rolled her eyes, her tone dripping with annoyance. “Chaos, as usual.”
“Right, right. Chaos. However, I’m slightly confused about your relationship with that handsome wolf,” Ross continued, unable to contain his curiosity.
“Look at what you’re saying. They’re both handsome. Who are you referring to?” Tommy remarked at the side, a teasing glint in his eyes.
“How can I not know who Alpha Morris is? Moreover, how can we use handsome to describe him? He’s more than just handsome-he’s a force to be reckoned with, powerful and intimidating,” Ross replied, his voice filled with reverence.
“So true.”
“So, you and-”
Nelly ignored him and continued walking, her head held high with confidence, her steps echoing with authority.
