Caroline’s heart ached as she helplessly witnessed her daughter’s suffering, a casualty of love’s cruel grip. Being someone who had conquered love’s battlefield herself, Caroline couldn’t fathom the desperation of a life without a man. But seeing Lara’s agony, so deep it seemed she would surrender her own existence, Caroline could bear it no longer and offered solace.
“Alright, alright. If you truly wish to be with Alpha Kilian, I will aid you. But heed my words, my dear, and he shall return to you,” Caroline comforted.
Lara, overwhelmed with tears, looked at her mother in disbelief. “Truly?”
“Have I ever deceived you, Lara? Remember this, we may appear feeble, but we must never truly be weak.”
“Then what must I do?”
Caroline leaned in, whispering into Lara’s ear. Lara’s tears ceased, replaced with a glimmer of hope. “Mother, will this truly work?”
“That is how I ensnared your father. What do you think?”
Lara pondered her father’s transformation from a notorious libertine to a devoted husband. She nodded earnestly. “Okay. I will follow your guidance!”
“That’s my girl. Above all, take care of yourself so you may muster the strength to forge ahead,” Caroline advised.
Lara stopped weeping, understanding her mother’s counsel. “I comprehend.”
Only when Lara gradually regained composure did Caroline breathe a sigh of relief.
Suddenly remembering something, Caroline looked at Lara curiously. “Lara, have you ever met Alpha King Larry before?”
Lara nodded. “Yes, I have. Why do you inquire?”
“Are you familiar with the parents of the two children who accompany him?”
“Children? What children?”
“Are you unaware?”
Confusion etched Lara’s face. “There are no children by the side of Alpha King Larry. I’ve encountered him numerous times, but I’ve never heard mention of any children.”
Caroline narrowed her eyes, deep in contemplation. She regarded Lara intently. “Rest well, Lara. Leave the rest in my hands.”
“Alright.” Lara did not ponder the matter further. At that moment, she only yearned for her own recovery, that Alpha Kilian might return to her side.
Upon leaving Lara’s abode, Alpha Kilian felt a sense of relief.
He was grateful to Lara, but his sentiments toward her were that of friendship. When he first assumed control of the company, he was young and arrogant. A group of shareholders conspired against him, making life unbearable. Yet, Lara stood by him, helping him overcome the most challenging phase of his life. She had shouldered everything for him.
Alpha Kilian knew not what love was. Any inkling of a romantic relationship quickly dissipated. He recognized he did not love Lara, despite being oblivious to the concept of love itself.
They were meant to be allies, nothing more. His desire to preserve their friendship had unintentionally led to this predicament.
Lost in his thoughts, his phone rang abruptly.
He retrieved his phone and answered the call, noting it was from Fabian.
“Alpha Morris, I have obtained surveillance footage,” Fabian started.
“What footage?”
“The footage showing Ms. Jackson’s car being tampered with and her being followed… I suspect someone is targeting her.”
Fury ignited within Alpha Kilian as he heard these words. He responded, “I will be there immediately.”
Instead of visiting Nelly’s hospital room, he hastened back to the company.
In his office, Fabian approached Alpha Kilian, holding a laptop. He turned the screen toward Alpha Kilian.
“Alpha Morris, observe. In compliance with your orders, I scoured through the surveillance footage from that day. Ms. Jackson had a late-night meeting in the office and departed by driving her car from the underground parking lot. I focused my search there, and I discovered something shocking.”
The video displayed a burly man clandestinely tampering with Nelly’s vehicle.
Rage simmered in Alpha Kilian’s eyes as he watched the footage.
Fabian clicked to the next video and continued, “I stumbled upon this video from Prosper Technologies’ underground parking lot. I sought to ascertain if it were mere chance or intentional. Lo and behold!”
The surveillance tape revealed the man, when confronted by Fabian and Alpha Kilian, scurrying to hide in a corner.
“His attire, height, and shoes are identical. Based on this, it seems Ms. Jackson’s misfortune was anything but happenstance,” Fabian claimed.
Unbeknownst to Alpha Kilian, his fists clenched as he surveyed the damning evidence.
“And what of the investigations I commissioned previously?” Alpha Kilian inquired.
“I conducted thorough inquiries. Since Ms. Jackson returned from abroad, she immersed herself in work, rarely interacting with anyone outside the office. If we speak of enemies…”
“Speak plainly.”
A sheepish smile played on Fabian’s lips. “Besides you, there appears to be no one.”
Alpha Kilian was rendered speechless. He glared at Fabian, who recoiled.
“B-But it’s the truth. Apart from you, there isn’t anyone else who-” Fabian halted abruptly, a realization dawning upon him. “Wait. I believe there is one more.”
Alpha Kilian’s gaze intensified. Had Fabian not mentioned this person, Alpha Kilian would’ve long forgotten about him.
“What is it, Alpha Morris? Could it be him?” Fabian questioned. “Yet, it shouldn’t be. The police apprehended him. Logically speaking, it cannot be him. Moreover, if he sought revenge, rather than targeting Ms. Jackson, he should-eh? Alpha Morris, where are you going?”
As Fabian prattled on, Alpha Kilian rose from his seat, grasping his car keys, and departed without a word.
Fabian promptly inquired, “Alpha Morris, where are you headed? You have a vital meeting that you have postponed repeatedly. The shareholders will not remain silent if you continue to do so.”
“The detention center.” Alpha Kilian responded, addressing Fabian’s initial query.
“Are you serious?”
“We shall only know for certain if it is him once we arrive.” Nelly’s safety left no room for speculation.
After a moment’s hesitation, Fabian exclaimed, “I-I shall accompany you, then. Wait for me!” He placed the laptop on the table and promptly trailed after Alpha Kilian. This material belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
“I refuse to endure further pestering from those shareholders. They are unbearably vexing!” Fabian muttered, determined not to be left behind.
