Chapter 5 The Charity Banquet (1)
In the living room.
Laurel’s phone started ringing.
Laurel checked the caller ID and answered the call. “What’s up, Shelley?”
“A charity dinner party will be held tomorrow. Do you want to attend?” Shelley must’ve forgotten to tell
her when they parted.
Laurel paused. Memories of the past flashed through her mind.
There was an annual charity banquet at Rosegrad City. Most of the rich and powerful people would
attend, except for her. In the meantime, Bruno was thoughtful and never forced her to go with him.
He used to be so nice to her, but now, she realized he just wanted to keep her in the cage. When she
lost everything, she wouldn’t be able to bounce back!
“I’ll go,” Laurel said without hesitation.
“I can’t believe what I just heard. Can you say that again?” Shelley loved attending all kinds of parties.
She wished she didn’t have to go by herself.
However, she didn’t get her hopes up.
“Let’s go shopping for some dresses tomorrow,” Laurel

“You weren’t lying, were you?” Shelley was still in disbelief. In the past, nothing she said could change
Laurel’s mind.
“See you tomorrow.” Laurel didn’t answer Shelley’s question and directly hung up.
Irvin was shocked to hear her daughter’s decision. “Laurel, will you attend the banquet tomorrow?
Didn’t you scorn such social activities?”
Laurel realized how selfish she was in her last life.
She spent all her time and energy on a man and never did anything to her family. In the end, she also
tore the family apart.
Laurel promised, “Dad, from now on, I will protect the
Lambert family and help you manage the Lambert Group. I’ll let the Lambert family continue basking in
glories. No one can stop me. Not Kermit and his family!”
Irvin was once again impressed by his daughter.
Before, Laurel didn’t have huge ambitions.
Irvin never thought about letting Laurel run the family. business, nor compelled her. He knew Bruno
was her whole life, so after she and Bruno got married, he would let Bruno take over the Lambert
Group.
However, Laurel would always be his first choice. Irvin wast over the moon. He said, “OK! I trust you!”
Laurel cracked a smile.

The next day.
In the afternoon.
Laurel and Shelley went to a luxurious shopping center to buy
gowns.
They picked their favorite and put the gowns on.
Then they sat in the dressing room and spruced themselves
up.
“Are you back to normal?” Shelley asked Laurel.
Laurel was stunned. “What?”
“Yesterday, Hayden…”
“Shelley,” Laurel interjected. Her expression changed slightly.
Shelley bit her lips, mumbling, “I don’t know what you see in him?”
Of course, she meant Hayden.
“I heard Nathan would be back home soon.” Laurel charged the topic. She knew Shelley was a big
mouth and didn’t want Shelley to say it out loud.
The walls had ears. If someone leaked her plans, all her efforts would be down the drain.

“What does it have to do with me?” Shelley said nonchalantly. “Besides, how did I not know? Isn’t he
having a wonderful life abroad? Why does he want to come back?”
Her tone was very serious.
“I just guess he will come home after graduation,” Laurel lied.
“He’d better not come back.” Shelley showed a look of disgust on her face.
Laurel bit back her comment.
Then they talked about other unimportant matters.
Laurel and Shelley spent the whole afternoon dressing up.
The moment Laurel rose to her feet in front of the mirror, she heard Shelley’s scream.
It could almost burst her eardrums!
“Laurel! Laurel! Laurel!” Every time Shelley was excited, she would repeat Laurel’s name three times.
“Can you not be so pretty? You’re making me look hideous!”
Laurel was speechless.
“You’re stealing the limelight every time!” Shelley accused.
“Let’s go.” Laurel couldn’t bother arguing with Shelley.
Shelley didn’t look awful. In fact, she had cool and delicate features. But compared to Laurel, she was
completely eclipsed.
Laurel was special.

She could take any man’s breath away.
It was hard to find a word to describe how beautiful her features were. They were just perfect.
Rumor had it that every man in Rosegrad City wanted to marry Laurel!

It wasn’t because of how talented she was, but because her beauty was irresistible.
No man could ever say no to her.
Shelley “lambasted” Laurel’s appearance all the way to the destination.
At the entrance, the valet respectfully opened the door for them.
Laurel took a deep breath.
She hadn’t attended such parties for a long time. Ineluctably, she would feel nervous.
She adjusted herself to her best form and slowly held her legs out. Instantly, cameras started clicking.
Lights flashed. All the reporters waiting outside were struck dumb.
Laurel, the daughter of the Lambert family, who never liked attending any parties, was now prancing on
the red carpet. The reporters didn’t get a chance to interview her. They only. took pictures and watched
her and Shelley enter the banquet hall.
Inside, everyone riveted their eyes on Laurel.
She was wearing a tight silver gown with a long train, which

accentuated her beautiful curves. In the incandescent light, her gown was flickering like stars. Her face
was fair and immaculate as if an angel came down from heaven. She was breathtaking, mind-blowing,
and show-stopping!
“Laurel.”
Bruno quickly walked to her.
He tried so hard to hide his dissatisfaction.
“Why are you here? Didn’t you dislike such parties?” asked Bruno.
“I suddenly realized I couldn’t be a canary the whole time,” Laurel said lightly. She found his face
overlapping with the man who stabbed her to death in her memories.
She tried so hard to contain herself.
When Laurel looked away, she spotted Camilla Braun who was holding Bruno’s arm. She was Bruno’s
exclusive partner, one of his many f uck buddies.
Laurel couldn’t believe she thought there was nothing going on between them in her previous life.
“Ms. Lambert,” Camilla said respectfully when she locked eyes. with Laurel/
“I heard you’re quite capable and have good manners. Bruno mentioned and praised you a lot,” Laurel
smiled.
“I’m flattered,” Camilla uttered every word with grace and decorum.
But deep down, she despised Laurel.

She wondered if the truth that what Bruno praised was their sex would make Laurel flip a lid!
People said Laurel was kind and considerate. She was the epitome of elegance. But Camilla only
viewed Laurel as a mor on and looked down on her. She thought Laurel was only keeping up
appearances.
“But I don’t know why you’re holding my fiancé’s arm. Is it a work requirement, or you’re up to no
good?” Laurel hissed.
Camilla was immediately mortified.
