Chapter 601 Fruit Salad
"Team A, proceed with the link I sent you. Team B, keep reinforcing the firewall I set up." Hearing her focused and methodical tone, Michael realized she was deep into work.
He decided to quietly make his way to the kitchen. After yesterday's failed attempt at cooking, he opted for something simpler today, something that didn't require any cooking at all. He was careful not to make any noise, so as not to disturb Chloe. When he emerged with a bowl of fruit salad, he noticed her demeanor had relaxed noticeably.
"Have you managed to resolve the issue?"
Chloe nodded. "Yes, but I'm not sure how much data from the company was compromised."
Even though she managed to stop the hackers, the damage had already been done by the time she intervened. All she could do was reduce the impact as much as possible. Michael set the salad down in front of her. "You should eat something."
As Chloe reached for the fork, her phone rang.
She put down the fork and walked away to take the call.
Michael, watching her meal be interrupted, felt a tinge of frustration.
"I need to go to the hospital. Don't wait for me for lunch."
James had called to inform her that her reputation as a top security researcher had made waves in the industry after Smith's hire.
Today, an executive from another company wanted to meet with her, potentially offering a lucrative side job.
Seizing the opportunity, Chloe also wanted to check on James to see if he was still fixated on leaving the hospital.
Michael quickly grabbed his coat. "I'll take you."
Chloe didn't argue and got into the car ahead of him.
Since their divorce, she had become accustomed to sitting in the back seat, leaving the passenger seat empty.
When Michael opened the car door, he handed her the bowl of fruit salad she had left behind.
Surprised, she realized he had brought it with him.
"You need to get more vitamins and eat plenty of fruit while you're pregnant," Michael said, keeping his eyes on the road.
Chloe, sitting in the back seat, decided to dig into the fruit salad he had prepared.
She took a bite and found it surprisingly delicious, better than his previous attempts at cooking. Though, she thought, making a salad wasn't exactly a culinary challenge. It was mostly about chopping and tossing ingredients with some dressing.Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
Chloe glanced at Michael's eager face in the rearview mirror and couldn't help but find it amusing.
"It's pretty good," she said, trying not to deflate his enthusiasm.
Michael's face brightened immediately. "If you like it, I can make it for you every day."
"There's no need for that," Chloe replied, her words cooling his excitement.
"Okay, but how about once a week?" she added, seeing his disappointed look.
Michael's mood lifted instantly. "Great! I'll make sure to switch up the fruit every week."
Chloe couldn't help but chuckle at how much he seemed to enjoy being given tasks. It was a change from his usual self.
When they arrived at the hospital, Chloe saw Maggie but didn't linger, as she was there to meet James for work. Outside, Michael was on the phone with Ethan.
"Mr. Shawn, you've got three flights scheduled for next week."
"Cancel them."
Ethan, clearly prepared for this, continued, "There's a project at Shawn Heavy Industries that needs your review." "Have Asher handle it."
"Mr. Cooper is also in Mamaica at the moment."
Michael paused, momentarily surprised by the news.
