Branch Sixteen
The meal lasted quite a while with the couple trying to act romantic. With the beauty of Jessica and the air and handsome face of Xavier anyone who saw them would believe that they were just an ordinary couple who married for love.
The people who took pleasure in taking pictures and videos for their socials were convinced that this couple married for love. For all everyone knows Xavier could have been in a secret relationship all this while and then finally tied the knot.
The tables began to turn and everyone came to Jessica’s defense. The blogs that pioneered the first news story began to get a lot of hate comments and messages about how they tried to spoil an innocent woman’s name.
How fickle are people? They can switch sides like it’s nothing. The side with the most evidence wins. Xavier’s phone began to ring on the table. He peeps to see who it was and it was Brian his assistant. It
Brian was impressed at his boss’s strategy and wanted to praise him. He was surprised that it worked and he didn’t even have to o post anything to divert the attention of people. Xavier cut off the call.
“Why don’t you get that? Or is it your secret girlfriend?”
Jessica was petty and she was glad that her turn for revenge came as quickly as a few hours apart. She was going to badger him to accept the call just as he did to her.
“I can’t take the call here. It’s Brian, my assistant” Xavier replied explaining to her.
He did not know why he had the need to explain to her but he just did. After all, she went all strong and refused to answer the call and he did not know either who called her all the way.
“Are you perhaps dating your assistant?” Jessica asked with a gasp ending her sentence.
She put her hand over her mouth and laughed. In the eyes of those around it seemed like something funny had been said and Jessica was reacting appropriately. Who knew that they were at each other’s throats?
“Are you almost done with your meal?” Xavier said changing the question.
Given the circumstances, he wasn’t really hungry but forced himself to eat to keep up with the facade.
“I’m done we can leave” Jessica replied cleaning the corners of her mouth with a napkin.
To be honest she thought she would have a fun-filled day tasting the flavors and cooking
of the Highshoo restaurant but she ended up having to eat while trying to keep up the act.
Most times the delicious-looking seven-course meal tasted like chaff in her mouth.
“I’ll stand up first and help you out of your chair then we go out for a walk around and then come back to get out car” Xavier explains.
Jessica was down for it after all she already agreed to it. They stepped outside hand in hand. The sun was setting and they began to take a walk.
Who had thought that the envied couple of the city would eat a seven course meal and walk around the area? As People saw them the talk of their date continued to increase online as they put on a show and the people were the directors and producers who were helping it thrive.
Jessica’s phone began ringing again. This time it was Burke. Seeing his name flash on her screen, Jessica felt her chest constrict. She hurriedly put the phone back in her bag. She clutched onto Xavier’s hand tightly and continued to walk with him.
There would be no way she entertained him any longer. He was now going to be dead to her from this moment onwards
Since Xavier wanted to call Brian back and hear the news and give him some feedback on what he had been able to achieve they cut short the stroll. They could do a follow-up date by the weekend. Maybe an adventure or amusement park or even the movies.Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
Just anywhere where the crowd was much and word could get out can’t than normal.
They came back to the restaurant door and entered into their car. Xavier drove them down the street a little before parking. He picked up his phone to call Brian.
“Tell me” he barked at his assistant as he put the phone to his ears.
“Your effort has proven efficient. The false news has been pushed down the trending list and replaced with the romantic daytime date between you two” Brian explained.
Brian couldn’t hide the joy in his voice that he would not need to work extra time trying to clear out the Delgado’s family problems.
“Go home for today and come to work tomorrow,” Brian said before cutting the call.
He knew that Xavier would still want to come to work at this time. Al he truly cared about was money and business. He could use this opportunity to try and get to know his wife. They would be together for a year after all.
“I’m driving now,” Xavier said informing the woman sitting beside him.
Jessica was absent-minded and did not notice or hear what he had said. She was contemplating calling Burke back. Let her hear what he had to say. While she was still thinking Burke’s call came in and out of impulse Jessica picked up and put it to her ears.
Xavier started the engine and began to drive towards the house. He needed to drop her off and catch up with work at the office.
“Did you like my little present?” Burke asked over the phone.
“I did not receive any present from you,” Jessica said wondering to herself why she picked up his call and why she was having a conversation with him. She was supposed to be cursing him out.
“The present on the news” Burke replied with a snort in his voice.
“You did that?” Jessica asked. The news was that he was at fault foreign to her. but it made her blood boil.
How dare he do something so horrible?
“You son of a b**ch” Jessica screamed over the phone to which Burke laughed. Jessica cursing him out was funny to him.
“Is my life some kind of toy where you play and dump it away only as you like?” Jessica asked screaming.
He went ahead to publish the fake news but still had the courage to call back was the shocking part of the whole scenario.
Xavier could sense that Jessica was having a hard time with whoever she was speaking to he yanked the phone from her hand and put it to his ears.
“Jessica’s husband speaking,” Xavier said.
Burke was covered in fear after hearing the sternness that was laced in his rival’s voice.
