Branch Seventy Six
They stood and chatted for a few more minutes before Xavier announced that he needed to show his wife to the other business tycoons who were in attendance.
Jessica had a hard time bonding and speaking with them. No matter how hard she tried she could barely find a common ground on what to talk about. She saw them turn their nose up when she could not make comments on their political stands or economic analysis.
“Finally some peace,” Jessica said as she plummeted into the seat beside Leslie.
“Isn’t it a fun thing to do?” Leslie said in a mocking tone.
“Very fun,” Jessica said teasing her back. She took the glass on the table and downed the water in it.
“Easy or you would have to go to the toilet often,” Leslie said as the cup dropped down on the table.
“I think I needed that,” Jessica said yawning a bit.
“Hey ladies” a strange man walked up to the table.
Leslie rolled her eyes when she saw him. “What’s he doing here?” she murmured as he sat down
“What am I doing here? I was invited of course. There is no party if I am not there” he said.
“Whatever. I wonder why you have such good hearing” Leslie murmured taking a sip of the wine she got earlier.
“Are you going to introduce your friend to me? She looks so beautiful I feel like we could be best friends” he continued.
Jessica hearing this strange man address her as beautiful made her heart skip a beat but not in a good way. She had been waiting all night for Xavier to compliment her just once but she had heard it so many times from the other men in attendance.
“Well I don’t think you can be best friends with her,” Leslie said air quoting the word best friends.
“Why not we’ve been friends for a while until you got married,” he said holding her hands down to the table.
Leslie wiggled her way out of his grip and threw him a death grip. “Oh my God you still got that sexy hot look,” he said licking his lips.
Jessica felt uncomfortable with the interaction but she did not want to walk away. She had circled the hall almost three times and now all she wanted to do was sit back down and enjoy the party the best way she could.
She would have a lot of good food and wine. She promised herself to get drunk because she knew that would be the only way she would be able to escape Xavier and hide awkwardness the rest of the night.
“This is Jessica Delgado,” Leslie said introducing her.
“I did not know that the Delgado had a female child…. ” he began to say when he realized that this was not the child but the popular wife who everyone was talking about.
His eyes widened and Leslie nodded with a smile on her face. She liked the fact that he was intelligent and she did not need to explain everything to him.
“Jessica anyway this is Chef Liston”
Jessica was thrilled to be meeting with Chef Liston. She has always dreamt of meeting those high-end chefs and clients and some how she might not have ever met them if she had not come the way of Xavier.
“I am a huge fan,” Jessica told Liston. “I did not recognize you because of what you’ve done with your hair,” she told him.
“Oh well I like to experiment with it” he answered with a smug expression.
He loved the attention that he was getting today and more importantly, it was from a beautiful woman like her.
“I am a chef too. I will be opening my restaurant soon and I will be sure to send you an invite” Jessica tells him excitedly.
He was a celebrity chef and if he happened to endorse her everyone would want to flock there. Maybe this was the greatest publicity she needed.
“Oh wow, a food artist? You don’t look like one instead you look like a fashion icon” Liston commented.
“Oh well I think you are taking it too far”
“If you would be sending me an invite I guess we need to exchange contacts right?” he said pulling his phone from his picket.
“Here may I have your phone number?” he asked her.
Jessica happily collected the phone and typed in her phone. To be honest she was on cloud nine. How could one of the city’s finest chefs and celebrity be collecting her contact?
Leslie watched the scene unfold before her eyes with utmost suspicion. She knew that Jessica was probably doing it out of excitement. She knew Liston on the other hand, only got a number of girls he wanted to make a move on.
Leslie wanted to stop the interaction but she was curious to see how Xavier would react when he heard that the playboy Liston went after his wife. It might just be what would take them closer.
Liston caught the expression on Leslie’s face and smiled before tapping her forehead. This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.
“I know what you are thinking but that’s not happening,” he said before taking one of the cups with wine in it and raising his glass.
“Let’s toast,” he said.
The girls picked up their glasses and clinked them together before taking a small sip and dropping them back to the table.
“I wonder when we can eat. I’m starving” Jessica commented looking away into the crowd.
“Soon I hope” Leslie responded holding her stomach.
“I catered for the event so I hope you enjoy it,” Liston said casually before standing up and walking away.
“Please be careful with Liston,” Leslie said looking in the direction of her husband who was in a serious long conversation with Xavier and Jason at another table.
“What do you mean?”
“Just be careful. He is a chronic womanizer who breaks the hearts of ladies. He has broken the heart of many upper-class ladies” Leslie fed her with the information.
“I am married,” Jessica said with an offense that Leslie would even think to bring it up.
“Well don’t get angry. I was just telling you about Liston. Didn’t mean to offend you”
“I guess they never get tired of work. They have to still discuss it at parties” Leslie said changing the topic causing Jessica to look in that direction.
She looked at all the men at the tale and had to admit that her husband looked the sharpest among them.
