Accidentally Married

Jessica wiggled as she felt her hands tied behind her. Her head was covered with a black cloth. It was translucent so she could not see what was going on in front of her.

She rubbed her palms together in the hope the ropes on her hand would come undone. As she shifted her legs she felt a sharp pain in one of them. She took a deep breath and tried to wrap her mind around how she came here.

She was trying to open up her restaurant when a strong hand engulfed her and placed something over her nose. Did she injure her legs while she was trying to struggle? That was all she could remember.

She tried to stay calm and listen to the conversation between the men. She heard loud cackling.

“That stupid bitch ran away?” one man spoke. “Did she think that I would let her go with my money?” he added.

“Let us make sure to get double, her husband is loaded and he would give us” This time the voice of the speaker sounded like a young person. It was not gruff like the others.

“Why are you doing this?” Jessica asked and the men turned to her.

“I guess she must be awake,” the man who spoke earlier said. “Remove the head cover and the ropes” he ordered. She heard footsteps approach her as she heard the sound of knives slicing into the ropes on her hands and legs.

When they were done and they removed the cover over her head she stood up abruptly. She was unsure which leg had the pain but it was the right one. The pain shot up her body she sat back down into the chair behind her.

“Careful now, you will hurt yourself” She finally saw the man with the voice walk towards her.

He had a scar right above his mouth. It was something that stood out to her. He has a cigarette dangling in his mouth and a smirk plastered other.

“What do you want?” she asked. She did not have a reason to be here, never in her life had she encountered or had to be in the same room as men like this so what was she doing here?

“Your family owes me a little bit of money?” the man answered taking out the cigarette from his mouth and spitting to the ground.

“My family? Owe you money? I have never seen you before so how can we owe you money?” she asked.

She was afraid because the men that were before her looked scary. The supposed youngest among them was even so scary she almost pissed her pants. The men had tough exteriors and looked haggard. She knew she did not have the luxury of showing her fear to them or else she might be in trouble. She tried her best to look confident although she was sure she was cowering in fear.

“Oh yes, your closet blood relative took a big loan to play from us”

Jessica’s eyes widened as she put two and two together. The reason her aunt came and why she left in a hurry, the reason she was asking for that big a sum, and the reason she was kidnapped.

“Yes that Bitch,” the man said in laughter causing the men behind him to laugh too. “She took a loan from me to play a game and she lost it all, by the time it was time to pay back she fled saying she was going to pay me before the end of the month. Guess what?” he asked going to hold Jessica by the mouth.

She started at him hoping he could not hear her heartbeat as she did. She gulped down and tried to keep a fierce expression on her face.

“Today is a day past the deadline and she is nowhere to be found. Her phone lines are switched off and I can’t find her. Seems he has disappeared”

“So why did you take me? I did not borrow the money” Jessica spoke causing his hands to fall from the grip.

“Well, you see once a person owes me the whole family owes me. I can only let you go until I get my money”

“You know this is illegal? Kidnapping is illegal and I am sure you would rot in jail for this” she said in annoyance.

One of the men rushes toward her with a knife pressed against her throat. “No one speaks to the boss that way,” he says in a low whisper and a sly smile

She sighed and turned to him with a glare. “My husband would make you rot in jail if anything happened to me” She did not know what Xavier would do in this situation but she knew that she had to show them that she was not afraid of them.

“I would like to see your pretty face husband try,” another man says from behind before bursting into a cackle. The men follow suit.

“Stop it scorpion” the man who seemed like their leader said. The one with a knife to her neck removes it and backs down while staring down at me intensely.

“So why don’t we have you speak with your husband? That might hasten the results” the boss said again. He pulled her phone from his pocket and she signed when she saw it.

He walked towards her dialed the number and put it to her ears. It rang twice before it connected. “Speak to him” he whispered to her

“Hello,” Xavier’s voice comes through. Jessica can hear the worry through them.

“Xavier,” she said and she heard him heave a sigh of relief.

“Jessica, what happened? Where are you? How did it happen? Are you fine?” he said in a hurry.

“I am fine do not worry,” she tells him. Hearing his voice made her want to run to him.

“I will be there soon, I promise”
