Accidentally Married

By the time they had gotten back home the whole house was asleep already except for the security guard that was on duty.

“They are all so cold in this house. They did not see us but did not bother to check on us” Xavier said loudly as they entered the dark house.

“Shhhh,” Jessica said putting her hand against his lips.

“What?” he asked still in a loud voice.

“The whole house is sleeping, it will be unfair if we come in by past twelve and then decide to wake them all up. If it were me ill also be mad” she continued in a whisper.

“Don’t they care about us?”

“I’m very sure they do, let’s go to bed now,” she said pulling him towards the stairs.

“I don’t think they do” he murmured as she pulled him.

“They must have been working all day they need to sleep,” she told him like he was a child who was unaware of try way the world works.

“I wanted to give them the good news,” he said putting his foot down firmly and refusing to move.

“What good news” she maintained her whisper while his loud voice prevailed.

“That we are a real couple now”

“What?”

“Do you feel shy?”

“No….. Yeah I do, let’s just go to bed now. The whole city saw us out on a date so I am pretty sure that the news would be out everywhere by dawn. They might even see it before we tell them”

“Okay,” he murmured and lifted his foot when she pulled him again.

“Are you not feeling exhausted? Because I am. I have had a long day and I want to just go in and have a long nap” she said turning back and walking up the stairs.

“You did have a long day, I am sorry” he whispered and followed her.

“I thought you did not know how to whisper?”

“I was only talking loud because I wanted them all to wake up”

“When is Genevieve going to start her treatment?” Jessica asked. The whole activity had made them forget about that important fact and the fact that she had been quiet in all of that without making a noise about it baffled Jessica.

“I spoke with Ross yesterday and when we go visit Papa we can take her along so she can get treatments done”

“Okay, I think that is a good idea then” Jessica murmured as they pushed open the door.

“You can use the bathroom while I try to take off my makeup”

“Am I getting first right privileges?” he asked like a child excited for a new toy.

“I need to remove my makeup so it’s only efficient if you shower now and I do so after you” she explained sitting on the vanity table small stool.

Xavier nodded and went to freshen up. The weather was changing but it was still very hot. He had barely sweated some part of the day but he still felt sticky.

“Aren’t you going to come to bed?”

“I will be there soon, I just need to finish up my night routine” Jessica had started using extravagant skin care products after Alicia had sponsored an all-expense impulse paid trip to the store that sold skin care products.

Jessica was skeptical at first at all the long steps and processes she had to take to maintain good skin but after Alicia’s one hour’s worth of speech on how to maintain one’s skin and why one should do it she and Leslie decided to give it a shot at least.

“Who else are you trying to look pretty for? I already think you are pretty enough”

“If I can get prettier I should do so,” she said staring at him from the mirror.

“If you get prettier then I might not be comfortable with you walking around. Men already shoot flirtatious eyes toward you wherever you go” he grumbled.

“It’s nice for a woman to feel pretty” she explained as she rubbed the last of her routine.

“Just come to bed, missing a day of the process won’t kill you”

“Well according to Alicia I must not miss a single day”

“Are there going to be any consequences if you do?”

“Who knows?” she shrugged and stood up. She stared at the bed, up until that moment they had always slept on separated sides of the bed. Was she supposed to snuggle to him?

She knew she liked him or maybe she loved it but was it not too early for them to do things like this? It was barely twenty-four complete hours since he had told her he wanted to try this out.

“What are you thinking of so intently?” he asked flipping the covers over from himself and waking towards her.

“Nothing, just the situation”

“What’s there to think? Just come to bed” he pulled her with him and she allowed herself to be pulled too. She wanted this but a part of her could not bring herself to accept the situation.

She climbed into bed and turned the other way as usual. She did not want to jump the gun. She did not want to force it on him.

“Am I going to stare at your back all night?” he grumbled again.

“Isn’t this the way it has always been?” Jessica asked without turning around to see him.

“But what did I say today?”

“That we should try and be a couple?” she asked.

“Yeah, that is what I said” he answered in an obvious. “And what do you think that meant?” he asked again.

“Xavier, I think we should take it slowly. I mean we should get to know each other better”

“I think I know you a little better now. I know you do want to be in my hands but you are fighting it”

“Whhaattt?” she stammered pretending she did not understand what he meant. How did he know this fact anyway?
