Chapter 940: Choosing You
Ayaan started to cry after speaking. “Ayaan is a good boy, why doesn’t Mommy want me?” Ayaan pouted, crying and wailing.
Brendon was speechless. He lowered his voice to comfort the child, “Mommy doesn’t not want you, your grandparents are sick and in the hospital. Your mom and uncle have to work and go to the hospital, so they don’t have time to take care of you.”Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
“You’ll stay with Daddy for a few days, and when Mommy has time, she’ll come to pick you up.”
Brendon’s words were persuasive, but the little kid clearly didn’t get it. Wiping his tears with his chubby hands, Ayaan said, “Then why doesn’t Mommy answer my calls?”
“Silly, I checked. When you called, your grandpa was being resuscitated. She probably didn’t have time to answer!”
“Ayaan, your mommy won’t abandon you.” Brendon felt a bit sad as he spoke. If there had to be a choice between him and Ayaan, he believed Ranita would definitely choose Ayaan over him!
Thinking about it, Brendon felt a bit jealous of his son.
“Really?” Ayaan looked at Brendon with grievance. He looked so pitiful that even a man with a heart of stone like Brendon softened.
“Really!” After a pause, Brendon asked, “Why do you think that way? Your mommy used to be busy with work and travel, and you never worried.”
Ayaan looked at Brendon with wide eyes. “It’s because… Grandma wants Mommy to marry other uncles. I don’t know those uncles; they probably don’t want Ayaan.”
After a pause, Ayaan looked seriously at Brendon and said, “Daddy, why did you and Mommy separate?”
“Uncle Steve isn’t here. If I have to choose a daddy, I’d still choose you.”
Brendon felt both heartbroken and comforted by his words. Fortunately, Steve was away on medical support; otherwise, would he even have a chance to win back his son’s heart?
Brendon picked up Ayaan and handed him dinner. “Finish your dinner, and I’ll tell you.”
Ayaan thought for a moment and nodded. “You can’t lie to me!”
Brendon had planned to have an online meeting but postponed it because of Ayaan’s tantrum.
“I won’t lie to you, but Daddy needs to have a meeting now. Can you eat your dinner quietly beside me?”
The study was Brendon’s private domain; he usually didn’t allow Ayaan inside.
“Eat dinner in the study?” Ayaan blinked and suddenly became happy.
Brendon ruffled his hair in exasperation. “Yes, but you can’t make a mess.”
“And no loud noises.”
Ayaan nodded. “I’m a good boy.”
In the study, Brendon was having a video conference. Each participant was a regional big shot, but no one dared to make any discordant noise in front of Brendon.
Throughout the meeting, only the strange sounds of spoon clinking and chewing could be heard.
Some people were curious and wanted to ask but didn’t dare to speak seeing Brendon’s cold expression.
The meeting progressed smoothly to its later stages.
“… The reports have all been completed. Mr. Stuart, do you have any questions?”
Just as Brendon was about to speak, a small figure leaned over and softly called him, “Daddy, I’m done eating.”
“Can you get me a napkin?”
Ayaan’s voice wasn’t loud, but the meeting was so quiet that it was pin-drop silent. Therefore, Ayaan’s voice was heard clearly.
The most surprising thing was Brendon’s voice, which was patient and filled with warmth: “Okay!”
“Put the plate in the kitchen when you’re done. Daddy will wash it later.”
