Chapter 50: confession
As the door slammed shut behind Blade, the room got real quiet. Alejandro turned to Marisa, his face all scrunched up.
“I’m sorry you had to see that,” he said, his voice cold. “I never wanted things to get like this.”
Marisa reached out, finding his hand for comfort. “It’s alright,” she said softly, giving him a reassuring smile.
Watching them, Alejandro’s twin brother, Alexandro, took a long look before leaving the dining room. Now, it was just Alejandro and Marisa.
Marisa looked down at her spilled meal, sighing. She wondered who Blade was and why she seemed to hate her so much, even though they’d just met.
Alejandro turned to a guard in the room’s corner, signaling him. “Go fetch a maid to clean up this mess,” he ordered.
The guard bowed and left, following Alejandro’s command. Once the guard was gone, Marisa turned to Alejandro, curious about Blade and her animosity.
“Alejandro,” Marisa whispered. “Who’s that woman I clashed with, and why does she hate me so much after just meeting me?”
Alejandro sighed softly before replying, “That’s Blade, and only she knows why she despises you. Maybe you should ask her yourself.”
“I’d rather not,” Marisa said, frowning. “Maybe she’s just jealous. Maybe she has feelings for you and resents me being here.”
Alejandro scoffed, “I don’t care if she’s jealous or mad about you being here. She can go to hell for all I care.”
“This mess wouldn’t have happened if you hadn’t brought me here. So, why did you?” Marisa asked, arms crossed.
Alejandro was about to respond when two maids entered with cleaning supplies. They greeted Alejandro and got to work cleaning.
“Let’s head to my room while they clean up,” Alejandro suggested to Marisa.
“I’m not going anywhere until you tell me why I’m here,” Marisa insisted.
Alejandro stepped closer, “If you want answers, come to my room.”
Marisa agreed but her stomach growled loudly, embarrassing her. Alejandro chuckled softly, earning a frown from Marisa.
“There’s nothing funny about it,” she muttered, feeling embarrassed.
Alejandro’s chuckle subsided as he realized Marisa’s embarrassment. “Sorry, didn’t mean to laugh,” he said, trying to ease the tension. “Let’s get you something to eat first.”
“Hey,” Alejandro called one of the maids who were cleaning the room.
The maid hurried to Alejandro and bowed in front of him. Marisa noticed the maid shivering in fear as she bowed in front of Alejandro. Marisa knew Alejandro was a ruthless mafia Don but she never knew that he was feared to this extent.
“Bring some food to my room now,” Alejandro told the maid with a cold voice.
The maid bowed in response before hurrying off to do what Alejandro instructed her to do. Marisa watched as the maid rushed scurried out of the room, then she returned her gaze back to Alejandro.
“Let’s go to my room, sweetheart,” Alejandro said with a mischievous grin.
Marisa wondered why Alejandro was grinning, and before she could ask him why, he swept her off her feet and carried her in his arms in a bridal style.
Marisa gasped as Alejandro carried her effortlessly in his arms as if she weighed nothing. He began carrying her out of the room to his room which was upstairs.
“Drop me, Alejandro. I can walk by myself,” Marisa said as Alejandro carried her upstairs.
“Just shut up and enjoy this moment,” Alejandro replied with a smirk as he continued carrying her to his room.
Marisa scoffed and relaxed in his arms. As they approached his room, she couldn’t help but wonder why he was suddenly acting nice and romantic to her. In the morning when he brought her from the church to the empire, he wasn’t as nice and romantic as this; he was scary and cold hearted towards her. But now that he was acting nice to her, she found it suspicious and wondered the reason behind his sudden change of character.
Finally, they arrived at Alejandro’s room and Alejandro carried her inside the room. Alejandro slowly dropped her and Marisa couldn’t help but marvel at the beauty and wealth of Alejandro’s room.
The room was super fancy, with fancy furniture and pretty decorations everywhere. Marisa’s eyes got big as she checked out the room, seeing a huge bed with soft sheets and a big chandelier hanging from the ceiling.
Alejandro moved around like he owned the place, but Marisa couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t right. Even though the room was all fancy, there was this weird tension in the air.
Alejandro told Marisa to get comfy, so she said thanks even though she felt uneasy. While Alejandro took off his suit jacket, Marisa looked around, noticing all the fancy paintings and expensive stuff. But deep down, she couldn’t shake the feeling that there was trouble brewing beneath all the fancy stuff.
Suddenly, there was a gentle knock on the door, interrupting the uneasy silence that hung in the air. Alejandro glanced towards the door, his expression unreadable, before calling out, “Come in.”
Marisa watched as the door slowly creaked open, revealing a timid maid standing in the doorway. The maid held a tray adorned with delicious-looking food and refreshing drinks, her eyes darting nervously between Alejandro and Marisa.
“Here’s your food, miss,” the maid said softly, carefully placing the tray on a nearby table.
Marisa offered the maid a grateful smile as she glanced at the tempting spread before her. The maid nodded in response before quickly retreating from the room, leaving Alejandro and Marisa alone once more.
Alejandro motioned towards the food, a gesture of hospitality amidst the tense atmosphere. “Please, help yourself,” he said, his tone more relaxed than before.
Marisa nodded, feeling a mix of gratitude and apprehension as she approached the tray. Despite the delicious aroma wafting from the dishes, she couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to Alejandro’s sudden kindness than met the eye.
Marisa couldn’t resist the enticing aroma of the food any longer. With a grateful smile, she eagerly helped herself to the delicious food laid out before her. As she savored the flavors, she couldn’t help but feel a pang of curiosity lingering in the back of her mind.
“Are you going to eat, Alejandro?” Marisa asked between bites, her gaze flickering towards him.
Alejandro smiled softly, his eyes warm as he shook his head. “No, thank you. I’ve already eaten,” he replied, his tone gentle.
Despite Alejandro’s refusal, Marisa continued to enjoy her meal, savoring each bite as she mulled over the events of the day. Alejandro remained seated on the edge of the bed, his gaze never leaving her as she ate.
As Marisa continued her meal, she couldn’t shake the feeling of Alejandro’s intense scrutiny. Despite his relaxed demeanor, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease lingering in the air. With a forced smile, she pushed aside her lingering doubts, determined to enjoy the meal.
Throughout her life, Marisa had never tasted anything as delicious as the meal before her. Being poor and responsible for her son, Jeffery, she rarely had the opportunity for such indulgence. But now, in Alejandro’s empire, she felt like royalty, finally able to savor something truly delightful.
Meanwhile, Alejandro continued to watch Marisa as she enjoyed her meal. Retrieving a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, he lit one and took a long drag, filling the air with smoke.
“Marisa, I’d like to ask you a few questions,” Alejandro began, exhaling smoke as he spoke.
“Sure, go ahead,” Marisa replied between bites.
“How old is your son, Jeffery?” Alejandro inquired, causing Marisa to pause mid-meal at the mention of her son’s name.
“Why do you want to know Jeffery’s age?” Marisa questioned, setting down her utensils.
“I don’t have a particular reason, I’m just curious,” Alejandro responded, taking another drag from his cigarette.
Marisa hesitated before answering, a hint of suspicion in her expression. “Jeffery is five years old.”
“And who is Jeffery’s father?” Alejandro asked, his inquiry prompting a slight frown from Marisa.
“Why the sudden interest in my son’s life?” Marisa asked, her frown deepening with concern.
Alejandro took a slow drag of his cigarette, his gaze steady on Marisa. “I just like to know about the people who are important to me,” he replied casually, though there was a hint of intensity in his tone.
Marisa studied Alejandro for a moment, searching for any clues in his expression. Despite his relaxed demeanor, she couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to his questions than mere curiosity.
“I don’t know who Jeffery’s father is,” Marisa finally answered, her voice tinged with a mixture of sadness and resolve.
Alejandro nodded slowly, as if processing her response. “You don’t know who the father of your son is?” he asked, before taking another drag of his cigarette.
“I know it may sound weird but I really don’t know who Jeffery’s father is,” Marisa replied and she sighed. “For more than three years, I’ve been trying to find out who the father is but I found nothing.”
A tense silence settled between them, broken only by the soft crackle of the burning cigarette. Marisa couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease lingering in the air, unsure of what Alejandro’s true intentions were.
As they sat in silence, Marisa couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to Alejandro’s questions than met the eye. With a sense of unease gnawing at her, Marisa braced herself for whatever Alejandro had in store.
After a minute of silence, Alejandro finally spoke, “So, what you’re trying to say is that you don’t know who impregnated you five years ago?”
“Yeah, I don’t,” Marisa replied, and Alejandro became really curious to know more.
“This is one of the strangest things I’ve ever heard,” Alejandro said with a smirk. “Getting pregnant and not knowing who is responsible for it? That’s unbelievable.”
“Have I ever told you my story, Alejandro?” Marisa asked.
“Nope, but I’d love to hear it,” Alejandro replied.
Marisa exhaled softly, then she began narrating her story. “Five years ago, I woke up in a hospital and I couldn’t remember anything. I couldn’t remember where I was or who I was. It was a lady named Clarabelle who told me my name and she told me that I was involved in a car accident which resulted into amnesia. Clarabelle also told me that I was pregnant and my pregnancy wasn’t affected by the accident, then nine months after, I gave birth to Jeffery.”
“So you mean you’re currently suffering from amnesia?” Alejandro asked.
“Yeah,” Marisa replied, nodding her head.
“I see,” Alejandro murmured before taking another drag of his cigarette.
Alejandro listened intently as Marisa recounted her story, his expression shifting from curiosity to a mix of surprise and intrigue. The revelation of Marisa’s amnesia added a layer of complexity to the situation, one that Alejandro hadn’t anticipated.
“So, you’re currently suffering from amnesia?” Alejandro repeated, his voice tinged with a newfound understanding.
Marisa nodded solemnly, her gaze distant as she recalled the events of her past. “Yeah,” she confirmed, her voice tinged with a hint of sadness.
“I see,” Alejandro murmured, his mind racing with newfound information. The pieces of the puzzle were slowly starting to come together, yet there were still many unanswered questions lingering in the air.
As they sat in contemplative silence, the soft crackle of Alejandro’s cigarette filled the room. Marisa couldn’t help but feel a sense of vulnerability, sharing such personal details with a man she barely knew. Yet, there was something about Alejandro’s presence that made her feel oddly comforted, despite the uncertainty of their circumstances.
With a sigh, Alejandro stubbed out his cigarette, the tension in the room dissipating slightly.
“You haven’t told me the reason why you brought me here,” Marisa said.
“I’ll tell you now,” Alejandro replied as he rose to his feet, then he went to sit down beside Marisa.
“Five years ago,” Alejandro began talking. “I was just a young man who fell in love with the most beautiful woman on this planet.”
“You had a lover five years ago?” Marisa asked with a surprised voice.
“Yeah,” Alejandro nodded.
“So, how is your long time lover related to my being here?” Marisa asked curiously.
“The name of my lover was also Marisa and she went missing five years ago,” Alejandro replied, fixing his gaze on Marisa’s face.
Marisa’s eyes widened in astonishment as Alejandro revealed this unexpected connection. “You had a lover named Marisa who went missing five years ago?” she repeated, her voice tinged with disbelief.
Alejandro nodded solemnly, his expression clouded with emotion. “Yes,” he confirmed, his gaze steady as he recounted the painful memories. “She was the love of my life, and when she disappeared without a trace, I searched everywhere for her.”
Marisa’s mind raced with questions, the pieces of the puzzle slowly starting to fall into place. “And you think I’m somehow connected to her disappearance?” she ventured, her voice barely above a whisper.
Alejandro hesitated for a moment before nodding. “Yes,” he admitted, his voice heavy with emotion. “When I first saw you, Marisa, something about you reminded me of her. I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to your presence here than mere coincidence.”
Marisa felt a wave of unease wash over her as she processed Alejandro’s words. The thought of being entangled in a mystery that spanned years filled her with a sense of dread, yet there was also a glimmer of hope that perhaps she held the key to unlocking the truth of Marisa’s disappearance.
“But why bring me here?” Marisa pressed, her voice trembling slightly with uncertainty. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
Alejandro sighed, his gaze drifting to the floor as he wrestled with his emotions. “I brought you here because I needed to know if you were truly her,” he confessed, his voice barely above a whisper. “I needed to know if there was any hope of finding her again.”
