Chapter 19: Danger around the corner
Marisa and Dave’s conversation in the waiting area continued, their laughter and shared stories momentarily providing a welcome distraction from the anxiety that loomed over Marisa. They talked about their families, their interests, and even shared a few jokes.
Dave couldn’t help but be impressed by Marisa’s resilience and her unwavering dedication to her son, Jeffery. He admired her strength and the love that radiated from her as she spoke about Jeffrey. Above all, he was captivated by her beauty and character. In turn, Marisa found solace in Dave’s presence. He was a stranger who had offered his support without hesitation, and that meant the world to her during this difficult time.
As they talked, Dave mentioned that he had a sister who had gone through a similar surgery as Jeffrey’s, which gave Marisa some hope and reassurance. They continued talking, and Dave kept doing his best to make Marisa feel less worried about her son’s surgery.
At the same time, the man sent by Alejandro had his gun aimed at Dave. He was ready to shoot, and his gun had a silencer, so it wouldn’t make much noise. He hesitated, though, because he realized that if he killed Dave, people might think Marisa did it, and if Marisa got arrested, his boss would kill him. So, he just needed Marisa to leave Dave for a moment before shooting Dave. Luckily for the man, Marisa felt the need to go to the restroom, so she excused herself and she headed to the restroom.
With Marisa out of the way, the man finally got his chance to complete his mission. But as he was about to pull the trigger, his phone started ringing, and he cursed as he lowered his weapon and brought out his phone from his pocket.
Checking the caller ID, he saw Alejandro’s name on it, and fear gripped him immediately. He knew his boss was calling to ask if he had killed Dave like he had instructed. The man summoned courage and he answered the call.
“Have you eliminated the bastard who dared to touch my possession?!” Alejandro’s thick voice boomed through the phone immediately the man answered the call.
“N… No boss.” The man responded with his voice filled with fear.
“And why the fuck is that motherfucker still alive?!” Alejandro asked, angrily.
“If you fail to kill that bastard within the next ten minutes, I swear to the devil, I’m gonna feed you to my crocodiles.” Alejandro said, threateningly. His voice was filled with danger, and it sent shivers down the man’s spine.
“And don’t forget to get rid of any man who tries to talk or get closer to Marisa. Make sure nothing happens to her till she leaves the hospital.” Alejandro added before disconnecting the call.
The man exhaled sharply as he returned his phone back to his pocket. He knew Alejandro was serious about feeding him to his crocodiles if he failed to carry out his orders. Alejandro had about ten crocodiles as pets, and he had fed lots of people to his crocodiles.
Mere thinking about being a meal for Alejandro’s crocodiles shook the man to the core, and he decided to eliminate Dave before Marisa would return from wherever she went to. But to the man’s disappointment, Marisa had returned and she was now talking with Dave.
“Fuck!” The man cursed.
A woman’s voice caught the man’s attention from behind, prompting him to swiftly conceal his firearm beneath his hoodie before he faced a nurse standing there.
“Sure, how can I assist you?” He skillfully wore a feigned smile as the nurse scrutinized him closely.
The nurse firmly stated, “Hospital policy dictates that loitering in the corners like you’re doing, is prohibited. You must either proceed to the waiting room or locate a suitable seating area.” The man couldn’t help but feel slighted by her tone, yet he maintained a forced smile in response.
“I’m sorry, but I’m waiting for a friend who’s in surgery right now. I’ll make sure to find a proper place to wait, though. Thank you for letting me know.” The man tried to maintain a calm and polite demeanor despite feeling a bit disrespected by the nurse’s tone.
The nurse nodded and walked away, leaving the man with his thoughts. As he watched her go, he felt like shooting her for being so disrespectful, but he had an urgent matter to settle which was eliminating Dave.
Turning his attention back to Marisa and Dave, who were sitting far away from where he stood, the man knew that it would be hard to carry out Alejandro’s orders with Marisa sitting beside Dave. He needed to find another way to complete his objective without involving or implicating Marisa. This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
Marisa and Dave kept chatting and laughing. One look at them and you’d think they’ve known each other for a long time, whereas they just met today. Aside from the fact that Dave was handsome, he was really good at making people laugh, even in dangerous situations. And because of this, Marisa found herself drawn to him.
Time seemed to pass quickly as the both of them kept on, and soon, a nurse came out of the surgery room and walked over to Marisa and Dave. On seeing the nurse, Marisa and Dave stopped talking and they both rose from their seat immediately. Marisa’s heart was racing with anticipation as the nurse approached them.
“Are you Jeffery’s mother?” the nurse asked, confirming the name of Marisa’s son.
Marisa nodded, her voice filled with hope. “Yes, he’s my son.”
The nurse smiled warmly and said, “Congratulations, ma’am, the surgery went well. Jeffrey is in recovery, and the doctor will update you soon. He’s a really strong young boy.”
Marisa’s heart’s leapt for joy and her eyes welled up with tears of joy, overwhelmed with gratitude. “Thank you so Lord,” she whispered with her eyes closed in relief.
“The doctor will be out of the surgery room soon, so wait here for him.” The nurse said.
“Alright,” Marisa nodded affirmatively. “Thank you so much.”
“Congratulations once again.” The nurse said with a smile before walking away.
As the nurse left, Dave turned to Marisa and said, “I’m so glad the surgery went well. Your son is a fighter.”
Marisa nodded, her voice filled with emotion. “Yes, he is. I can’t thank you enough for being here with me, Dave. Your support has meant the world to me today.”
Dave smiled and replied, “I’m just glad I could be here for you and share this moment of joy. If there’s anything else I can do to help, please don’t hesitate to ask.”
Marisa felt deeply moved by Dave’s kindness and support, finding it difficult to believe that a stranger could be so caring and understanding. While they continued to wait for updates on Jeffrey, an unexpected friendship blossomed between them, filling the atmosphere with joy as they exchanged stories and shared laughter.
Meanwhile, Alejandro’s henchman remained watchful from another part of the hospital, growing increasingly impatient. He was desperate for Marisa to leave Dave’s side once more, giving him the opportunity to eliminate Dave. He understood that if he failed to get rid of Dave, he’d face a gruesome fate at the jaws of Alejandro’s crocodile pets.
Just the thought of being devoured by dozens of crocodiles sent shivers of fear through the man’s entire body. Consequently, he made a resolute decision to kill Dave, disregarding whether Marisa might be blamed or not. Without wasting a moment, he produced his gun and took aim at Dave, ready to finally finish him off for daring to touch his boss’s possession which was Marisa.
