A Naive Bride for the Sophisticated CEO

Chapter 10: Where am I going?

Where am I going?

Amelia carefully carried James’ cup of tea in her hand. The hot tea was in a coffee disposable cup.

“Now, I think I obeyed and disobeyed him at the same time. Tea in a coffee cup is coffee.”

She smiled at her cooked-up principle and walked out of the elevator. She proceeded to James' office and when she got to his door, she could hear him talking.

She moved her ear closer to the door and tried eavesdropping. Soon, she began to hear another person’s voice. This time it was that of a lady. She could barely hear what they were discussing.

She shrugged her shoulders and knocked on the door. She exhaled softly and waited for him to give her the permission to go in.

After waiting a few minutes, and she didn’t hear him ask her to come in, she knocked on the door again.

“Why does she keep knocking?” Amelia heard feminine voice, and she furrowed her brows.

‘He asked me to make him a cup of coffee, and I am here to give it to him.’ She thought.

“If you want to stand there, I’d prefer you don’t keep disturbing me with that knock,” James muttered, with his eyes glued to his computer. He had an important meeting to attend.

Amelia hastily opened the door and walked in. “I’m sorry. I wanted you to give me permission before entering,” She carefully walked to his desk.

She looked at the young woman that sat on the couch with the corner of her eyes. She wasn’t sure who she was to James, but she seemed to relax to be there for business.

“Here is your…” Amelia didn’t know what to end her statement with. So she just placed the cup on the table and moved back slowly. This time, she turned her head to look at the lady that sat on the couch. ‘She is beautiful.’

“Good day, Ma’am.” She bowed slightly and divulged a smile. The lady trailed her eyes over Amelia’s body from head to toe and gave a disgusted face.

“James, please don’t tell me this thing is going to get the job. She doesn’t even look learned. Look at how casual she looks. She even brought you coffee when you don’t take coffee,” Tina, who happened to be James’ friend, uttered in disgust, and Amelia was forced to look at herself again.

‘Am I that bad?’

James heaved a sigh and looked at Tina. He rolled his eyes and shook his head. He looked at Amelia and caught her checking herself out.

“What is in the cup?” He asked, and Amelia quickly raised her head.

“It is tea, Mr. James. I asked two of my friends in the restaurant how you love your coffee, and she told me you don’t take coffee. So I made tea,” She responded with her hands folded in nervousness.

“And did I ask you to make tea?” He asked, and she shook her head and gulped hard.

“I… I thought you made a mistake when you told me to make coffee. I presumed you meant tea,” She responded.

Tina exhaled loudly, making the both of them look at her.

“Listen, newbie. If you want this job, you need to do more than this. Start with your looks. You don’t look nice. Why would James, a man of such importance go to a meeting with someone looking like a maid?”

Amelia’s eyes heated up quickly. She tried to take all of Tina’s harsh words without crying, but she couldn’t help it. Her eyes failed her and a tear dropped from her eyes.

She sniffed and bowed. “I’m sorry about that, Ma’am. I promise I’ll dress better next time,” She mumbled, feeling pains in her throat.

“Look at me,” James said after he saw tears streaming out of her eyes.

Amelia slowly raised her eyes to look at him, and he saw her eyes were red already.

He smirked and picked up the cup of tea. “You have another assignment.”

He took a sip from the tea and raised his eyebrows. It was warm, its sugar and milk quantity was moderate, just the way he loved it. He was impressed but he wasn’t going to show that to Amelia.

“Oh God, please let him like the tea.” Amelia prayed silently as she watched his facial expression after he took the sip.

He dropped the cup and looked at her with the same straight face.

‘Oh no. He doesn’t like it. Will he give me the job now? Why isn’t he saying anything?’ Amelia began to fidget.

“Tina, I have a meeting to attend to now. You have to leave.” He shifted his gaze to Tina, and she bounced her head. She reached for her bag and lifted it.

She stood up and adjusted her short, fitted gown. She headed to where Amelia stood and moved her mouth to her right ear.

“Pray he doesn’t give you the job. If he does, you would have more things to deal with other than your looks.”

She made an evil giggle and turned to look at James, who just watched her. “Talk to you later, James.” She blew him a kiss and walked out of the office.

Amelia was glued to where she stood. Tina’s threat kept ringing in her head and it made shivers run down her spine.

“I told you I have a meeting. Why are you still standing there?”

James stood up and picked up a file. He walked to where Amelia was and pinned the file on her chest with his hand.

“Move it! If I get to that meeting late, you have another debt to pay.”

Amelia’s eyes widened, and she bounced her head. She quickly held onto the file as soon as he released it, and she put it in her bag.

‘This means I have the job, right?! I have the job!’ She yelled in her head.

She walked briskly to the door and stopped all of a sudden. She looked back and saw James looking at her. “Should I dispose of the tea? Since…”

“You have two minutes to get to the car outside the company,” James responded coldly. Hearing this, Amelia hurried out of the office and headed to the elevator.

James hurriedly picked up his cup of tea and gulped all of it at once. He covered the cup and walked out of his office too. He buried his left hand in his trouser pocket and kept the empty cup in his right hand.

He got out of the company and met Amelia standing next to his car. Amelia looked at him and noticed the cup in his hand. ‘Is he taking it with him?’ She wondered.

James made a turn and walked up to the dustpan that stood not so far from the company’s entrance. He threw the cup in it, and Amelia gasped silently. ‘He threw it away. He hates it.’

He walked back to where she stood, and his driver quickly alighted and proceeded to the back door. He opened it for James, and he walked in. He sat in the car and his driver closed the door.

Amelia hurried to the other side and reached for the door. She was about to open the door, when she looked up and saw James glaring at her. This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.

“What do you think you are doing?” He asked, and she quickly withdrew her hands. “I want to…” She stammered, and he scoffed.

“Why would you think I’d let you in my car? Get a taxi!” He smacked, and Amelia bounced her head. “Yes, sir.” She gave the car a reasonable distance immediately.

“I must not get to the location before you,” James said, and he wound up his window. His car zoomed off, and Amelia ran closer to the road.

“Taxi!!!” She yelled, waving her two hands in the air when she saw a taxi approaching.

The driver stopped in front of her, and she hurriedly hopped into the car.

“Where are you going, Ma’am?” The driver asked and looked at her in the interior mirror.

“Where am I going?” She responded in a low tone. “Where am I going?!” She yelled when she realized she had no idea where the meeting was to take place.
