A Life Debt Repaid By Cheng Xiaocheng Chapter 71
Chapter 71
Keeping his temper in check, Simon asked, “What do I have to do for you to accept a private settlement?”
Cordy sneered. “Why are you so eager to settle it privately? I’d be half-dead if John Levine didn’t take that blow for me.”
“I know you suffered, but I’m doing this for Starstream Group,” Simon said, his tone turning soft gradually. “It’s going to affect the company negatively if this gets out, and we’re still family, right? I naturally feel sentiment for Starstream after working there for so many years-I don’t want our scores of employees to get hurt over this.”
Cordy sneered again-despite Simon’s pretty words, he was just afraid that they would connect the incident to him.
Still, she relented. “Well, since you’ve put it that way, it’s not as if I can’t settle it privately.”
“Really?” Simon was clearly thrilled.
“But I have several conditions.”
“What conditions?”
“Firstly, the culprit must cover for all of John’s medical expenses, including the fee for his medication, his hospital stay, his rehabilitation, along with damages for mental trauma. They left him hospitalized, after all.”
Simon’s face turned ashen right then.
The scion of the Levines would naturally stay at the best hospital and be given the absolute best care. That was going to cost a lot, and since the culprit was not going to afford it, it meant Simon himself was paying for it.
Even so, he agreed to it through gritted teeth. “Fine.”
“Secondly, the culprit must apologize personally to me and John, and offer assurances that they would not cause trouble for Starstream Group.”
“Fine,” Simon repeated.
He did not hesitate this time-it was no skin off his back.
“Thirdly, Fabian Locke and Dean Longman must both resign as head of production and manager of the production plant respectively.”
Simon refused right then. “No! How could you ask for that?!”
After all, if those two men were forced to resign from Starstream, they were not going to help him manipulate company affairs from the inside. Moreover, how would his other loyal spies see him now?!
He would definitely lose their loyalty!
Even so, Cordy asked in return, “Their management is definitely the reason for the riot in the first
place. It’s only reasonable to demand their resignations, no?”
Simon had to keep his temper in check again. “I mean, who would be in charge of production if they resigned?”
“I will,” Cordy replied, putting weight on every word.
“How could you?!” Simon exclaimed in agitation.
“It’s not impossible,” Cordy said. Not wanting to waste her breath with him, she continued, “Agree to those three conditions, and I will accept a private settlement-otherwise, I’ll see you in court.
With that, she prepared to hang up. Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.
“Fine! It’s a deal!” Simon growled through his teeth.
How did Cordy manage to push him this far?
They were all leading her by the nose before… only to end up threatened by her!
Even as Simon’s blood pressure skyrocketed from sheer frustration, Cordy reminded him, “Fulfill all three conditions, and I’ll go to the precinct personally to settle… but you have to hurry. The police aren’t going to wait.”
With those words, Cordy hung up… and several text messages promptly popped up on her screen.
[Back hurts even more when I wake up. The painkillers must have worn off.]
But he was never given any yesterday!
[I think they changed the brand of apples. These aren’t sweet at all.]
Those apples were the same apples from yesterday!
[Am I bothering you at work? Just trying to distract myself. You don’t have to answer if you’re busy.]
Cordy was speechless-the snake was doing his thing again.
Still, she remembered that most of her work would be stalled before Fabian and Dean resigned, and she had some time to spare.
As such, she did not hesitate to get to her feet, pick up her laptop, and head to John’s VVIP ward.
Be that as it may, she stopped in her tracks as she entered-Noel was flashing her shy, charming
smile inside.
“Hey, sis!” Noel called out to Cordy innocently, appearing enthusiastic, lively, and not awkward at all.
Cordy smiled despite herself-Noel really loved her ‘stuff’!
