Chapter 173: Hugh’s Romantic Arc Part 1

-Hughs pov-

It took two and a half weeks to sail to the Elven Continent. It could have taken longer if we didn’t skip

any waystations. However, I pressured the captain to get there as fast as possible. After the trip, I could

understand why Sylphy never visited more than once a year and why she stayed for such an extended

period.

The people I took with me were the men I trusted most, the handpicked soldiers I’ve gathered over the

years. However, I tasked Val to stay behind. Compared to the others he has a sense of nobility and he

was most well informed about the Demon Empire. If I had to entrust the country to anyone other than

my family he would be first in line. He would sometimes question why I trusted him so much, he was

the only son of the previous Demon King after all. However I could tell right when I met him he wasn’t

like most Demons, he had a sense of integrity and honor. I could tell he yearned to make a difference

and help those around him.

————-

There is only one port of the Elven Continent, luckily it’s hardly occupied. The only people who seemed

to reside there were traders and fishermen, mostly Humans and Beastmen. There were a few elves but

from what I heard most of them live towards the center of the continent. We were met with no

resistance entering the territory. We found some horses for sale and rode our way into the thick forests

of the continent. After three days of riding, we were close to the world tree. The indescribably large tree

was even more amazing than I expected. I thought it was just a large tree with a town around it. In

reality, it was a mountainous tree with a bustling city growing from the roots climbing up it. The city had

no architecture that I was used to, the homes seemed to be built in such a way that they matched the

forest around it.

My men were just as speechless as I was.

The only elf within my band of fighters spoke standing close by.

Luke: “This view never gets old.”

Hugh: “I can see why none of you guys like leaving this place.”

Luke laughed and spoke once more.

Luke: “You should see the view from the top.” This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.

Hugh: “I thought the tree was the royal palace, how could a civilian see it from the top.?”

Luke: “The royal palace is at the base of the tree, the rest of the tree is open to everyone.”

Looking closer at the bottom one could see a large stone building underneath the tree. It looked as

though the tree grew on top of the palace.

Hugh: “Come on let’s go, we’re almost there.

————-

We were a sight for sore eyes within the city. This was probably the first time many of these Elves have

seen non-Elves.

The castle was larger than I thought, it towered over us just like the tree.

A few guards were standing at the entrance of the palace, and they were surprised by our visit.

I asked for the princess. I asked for the king. They didn’t move and told me no one was allowed within

the palace. I told them who I was and they pushed us away from the doors of the palace without even

considering the consequences.

I stood a ways away.

Red: “Those idiots.”

Hugh: “I guess we’ll have to wait till night to break in.”

———-

We hid in the shadows as we searched and eventually found an entrance. The guards were taken care

of quickly and quietly.

We handled anyone who caused trouble as we navigated the castle.

It was a lengthy castle but we made it to the throne room. I hoped to find anyone from the royal family.

But all I saw was some man who I’d never seen before. He seemed weak and overly confident. He was

surprised by my intrusion the guards came from his sides and I dealt with them quickly. He shook in his

chair, then tried scurrying out the side entrance. My hand grabbed his collar, pulling him hard enough

for him to fall to the floor.

He tried backing up away from me but Red was blocking his way out.

I got close to him.

Hugh: “Where’s Princess Sylphy.?”

“I..”

My hands squeezed his neck so tight.

Hugh: “Tell me where she is and I might spare your life.”

“She’s in the Asterak Kingdom.”

My teeth held tightly together as my anger increased.

Hugh: “Why the hell is she there?.”

“We sold her off into slavery, it’s already been a few weeks. So she’s probably already someone’s slave

by now.”

Hugh: “That’s the worst possible thing you can say to me right now, but you’re lucky you have the

information I need.“

Not a second later more guards trying to be heroes came into the room.

“King Florence, are you alright.?”

He couldn’t answer his hands tried prying mine off his neck. He looked at them quickly with a fearful

expression.

They pointed their spears at me and the one from before spoke. They seemed quite determined.

“Unhand the Elven King you Demon..!”

Two of my men came in and I spoke.

Hugh: “I thought I told you to take care of them.?“

“We’re sorry your highness, they slipped pasted us..”

Hugh: “Whatever just help me get rid of them.”

My hands released and he dropped to the floor.

Blue and red marks of my hands were left on his small neck.

The Elven guards were taken care of with a quick slash. After another slash, the blood left my sword

splattering on the floor.

Hugh: “Go help the others.”

The two left quickly.

I looked down at the Elf, turning my head to the side in puzzlement, and then laughed.
