A Billionaire’s Ruse

“You are a greedy fellow. Why do you think you can get all these things you seek” he asked, obviously weighing me if I am worth his time and energy.

“I am not greedy, no, not in my eyes. I simply want to get the good things of life I can find” I responded looking at him deep into his eyes probably searching for some unknown clues.

“this does not change the fact you are greedy and hungry for power” he replied

“I might be, who knows?” I said, obviously remembering how I had to play the game of chess as a youth, aware of the effect of each move.

“You are greedy and this is why I chose to help you” he said to me, surprising me.

“What do I get in exchange for this wealth and power you seek?” he asked me, not removing his eyes from me even for a second.

“you will get power beyond your imagination” I said to him trying to lure him using greed.

He laughed so hard that I was beginning to feel like a fool before him.

I kept my cool waiting patiently for him to be done laughing. Just then he spoke up

“what power do you think that you can offer me that I do not already have?” he asked me

I kept quiet for a while contemplating the best answer to give him. I knew my success or failure in this mission so much relied on this conversation

“what power do you seem worthy of?” I asked him for his opinion.

“I seek power to buy a different kind of power,” I replied.

“hmm… A different kind of power” I repeated after him

“Yes, a power I have always craved right from the days of my youth,” he said, taking his eyes away from me for the first time, looking into space as if lost in a trance.

“Hmm,” I replied, waiting for him to complete his statement.

He looked at me sharply as if coming back to his senses

“well that is not for you to know today, maybe some other time but for the meantime, I want you to make a promise to me” he said to me

“What promise?” I asked, feeling weary of him at this point. Obviously, I no longer trust this fellow and will consider eliminating him once I get what I want.

“promise me that you will not kill any member of that household” he said to me.

I was at ease for the first time. If that was the only criteria, I had no problem with that. I was not out to kill. I was only out to gain power and wealth and they are safe as long as they don’t get in my way of achieving this.

“It is a promise,” I said to him.

“one more thing.” he said, stopping me on my track.

“what is it?” I asked

“don’t try to play smart with me. I am not your regular pawn and if you play any stupid games with me, I will make sure you regret the day of your birth” he said to me

I was glad with the outcome but unsure of what his secret desire is and what he will request in return. Well I will know what to do about it when it’s time, I concluded.

After our meeting that day, i decided to call Michael the next day to finalize our plans and get to work immediately

“Hello Michael,” I said over the phone.

“How are you, Alex?” he replied.

“doing fairly fine” I said

“Why did you call?” he asked, going straight to the point without wasting time.

This is one of the things I like about this guy. He loves to always go straight to the point without wasting much time

“how do we go about the plan?” I asked him

“Well, the company is on the verge of collapsing due to so much debt. The company needs any investor that can save it. This is where you come in. Schedule a meeting with the boss as a top billionaire willing to help them and you have the key to all you want”he replied

“Thank you man, you are the best,” I said to him.

“Keep that to yourself, just make sure you do not harm any member of that family except you want me to kill you with my bare hands,” he replied.

“OK, you can count on me if that is your problem” I replied to him ending the call

I woke up the next morning and took my bath very early.

I dressed up and wore an Italian suit. I needed to look as rich as I could. I even had to take a luxury car just to keep up with my plan.

I called my driver to drive me around. I needed to make this look as perfect as possible because if this plan goes wrong, then I will be missing a golden opportunity, who knows I might never get such an opportunity again.

I walked out of my compound and my “new” driver was there waiting for me. I entered the car after he opened the car.

We drove off to meet the owner of Thornton construction. Finally I will have a chance to taste real wealth.

“please do you have an appointment with him?” the lady asked.

“no but he will love to see me,” I replied.

“What is your name?” she asked me.

“Alex… Alex Pierce” I replied as I do not want anyone to know if I am Alexander or Alexio my rich twin.

“OK, let me inform him,” she said, picking up her telephone and punching some numbers, obviously the number of her boss.

Before the call could go through, I saw a man, looking a bit aged coming out towards the exit.

“oh, he is here already,” the receptionist said, dropping the telephone.
