Chapter 290
Jason was in a huff. Estrella laughed and teased, “Can’t charm my way out of this one?”
Jason turned around and pinched her chin, saying, “If you really wanna make it up to me, let’s go get our marriage license tomorrow.”
Estrella’s laughter filled the room. She knew it. There he was, making a mountain out of a molehill again, trying to talk her into making it official.
Eyeing Jason for a moment, Estrella said, “Let’s do it. Let’s go get that license right now.”
Jason’s eyes lit up like Christmas lights. “For real?”
Noticing his little schemes, Estrella couldn’t help but laugh and pinch his cheek. Jason, your little plots are written all over your face. You can keep dreaming about that license.”
With that, she withdrew her hand and flopped down on the bed. “Stay mad if you want to. I’m taking a nap.” Yawning widely, Estrella pulled up the duvet and covered herself.
When her drifted off without a fuss over him, Jason couldn’t resist. He lay down beside her and enveloped her in his arms. “You heartless thing, how can you be sleepy at a time
like this?”
His words from this morning weren’t exaggerated at all. He did get sick and receive injections for six days during his business trip. He did go straight to the Dorvold family’s place after getting off the plane. It’s true that upon hearing she was at Waterfall Acres, he immediately went to the supermarket to buy groceries.
Jason pressed down on her, and Estrella turned to face him. Just as she was about to wrap her arms around his neck, her phone rang by the pillow. It was her mom, Autumn.
Estrella answered, “Hey, Mom.”
From the other end, Autumn asked, “Estrella, have you and Isaac had lunch?” Then she added, “By the way, Jason was looking for you and Isaac at the house this morning. Did he make it to Waterfall Acres? And tell him to buy less stuff for Isaac; we’re running out of space.”
Autumn filled her in on Jason’s whereabouts during his trip, how he video-called Isaac every day, keeping the little guy company with chats and stories.
Estrella couldn’t suppress a smile. So, she was the only one being ignored after all.
After hanging up, she turned to see Jason still lying on top of her. She gently wrapped her arms around his neck and said with a hint of pride, “Thought you were mad at me? Thought you weren’t speaking to me? So why were you hitting up my son every day?”
She had wondered how Isaac seemed so unaffected by Jason’s week-long absence. She thought Isaac had just gotten over it, but it turned out Jason had kept in touch all along.

Even though Jason was upset with her, he still cared for Isaac.
Looking straight into Estrella’s eyes, Jason said, “He’s my son too.”
And with that, Estrella pulled herself up and pressed her lips to his. Her initiative sent Jason over the moon. With one hand around her waist and the other cradling the back of her head, he deepened the kiss. This was the first time she had coddled him since her return, and the first time she had kissed him first. Jason was elated, feeling a breakthrough.
Marriage is about give and take, about one person stepping back so the other can come forward. One person makes a move, the other reciprocates. That’s how love lasts.
No one can always have the upper hand; no one should always yield. Everyone gets tired.
Afterward, as Estrella lay motionless in Jason’s embrace, he kissed her cheek and whispered, “Darlin’, I shouldn’t get so worked up this time. Isaac’s still young. We really can take our time thinking about having more kids.”
He pulled her closer and continued, “I was upset when I saw the medicine, really upset. But after a couple of days, I came around. We’re young, and as long as I treat you right and you’re willing to have me, we’ll have plenty of chances for more kids in the future.”
“I didn’t contact you because I wanted you to soothe me. When you didn’t call me and I got sick, my heart was heavy. Still, I couldn’t stand not seeing you, even if you’re as cold as ice. I had to come and see you, to cook for you.”
Jason had become more expressive since their separation. Estrella couldn’t deny the flutter in her heart at his words. She looked up at him, saw the lingering sadness in his eyes, and leaned in for another kiss.
As their lips met, Jason’s joy was palpable, and he kissed her back with all his might.
Now, Estrella could see the change in Jason. He was more patient than he’d been back in their school days, back when he was more carefree and less expressive.
Estrella could clearly feel his current concern for her. Whether someone cares about you or not depends on whether they are attentive to your emotions, thoughts, and their willingness to communicate or explain. If they neglect these aspects, you hold no significance in their heart.
After their passionate embrace, the room’s atmosphere grew even cozier. Foreheads touching, Estrella murmured, “I’ll try to find my way back to the old me.”
She used to care for Jason like this, wary of misunderstandings. But over time, she closed off, even if she still joked and played with him.
When she told Jason she would try, he rolled over and trapped her in his embrace, kissing and caressing her with a fervor. As he claimed her, he whispered in her ear, “Estrella, I love you, so very much.”

Her response was their entwined bodies, their shared intimacy.
Meanwhile, across the hall, Bryce lay on the bed with his legs crossed. When he locked eyes with Isaac, the little guy burst into giggles. Seeing this, Bryce ruffled the tot’s curly hair. “Silly, aren’t you?”
Isaac, clutching a toy plane, looked up at Bryce and said, “Mommy, mommy.”
Bryce’s bouncing leg paused as he replied, “Looking for mommy? She’s busy making you a little brother or sister.”
After saying this, he watched Isaac with a serious expression. “Son, don’t you think it’s about time I start thinking about setting down? Should I get back in the game, maybe find you a Mommy B?”
Isaac couldn’t understand, but seeing Bryce waiting for an answer, he giggled again.
Bryce shook his head, a wry smile hiding behind his exasperation. “You little goofball, if you keep this up, you’ll never find a girlfriend.”
Instead of feeling scolded, Isaac’s laughter only grew, his eyes twinkling with mirth. Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
Bryce couldn’t help himself and shouted towards the bedroom across the hall, “Hey, Ella, are you sure you didn’t actually give birth to a little goof?”
In truth, Isaac’s IQ was off the charts, but as for his emotional intelligence, well, he was still too young for that to be measured.
