Chapter 24
Chapter 24
"Clean up the mess and pour me another cup of tea," Sally instructed before she left.
Judy quickly retrieved her phone from the sink. It was definitely ruined after being submerged in water. She hadn't expected Jenna to be so brazen in the Reid residence.
Thinking back to her coquettish behavior toward Clark earlier, Judy suddenly felt a pang of bitterness. Not because of how he reacted, but because she had grown up with Jenna.
No matter what she wanted or desired, she could always get it as long as she acted coy with the people around her.
As for herself… Well, everyone had their own destiny.
Judy set the phone aside and silently cleaned up the broken porcelain before preparing some more snacks and tea to be brought to the living room.
By now, the housekeeper had already attended to Jenna's injury. In truth, the wound wasn't serious. It was just a small cut from the broken porcelain. It had stopped bleeding when it was bandaged, but she still had tears in her eyes.
"Clark, it hurts so much. Is the bandage not done properly?" she whimpered.
Clark held her hand and examined it carefully before saying gently, "It's nothing serious. If you're still worried, I'll get someone to take you to the hospital."
"Would it get infected? Maybe I need a tetanus shot."
Hearing this, Judy almost burst out laughing. Jenna was studying medicine, yet she pretended to be naive and clueless.
"Judy, why are you still standing there?"
Noticing her coming out from the kitchen, Sally suddenly said, "If you can't speak, that's fine, but you're also clumsy and dumb-witted. Hurry up and come over to apologize to your sister."
Judy was stunned. Why would she apologize when she hadn't done anything wrong?
After setting down the snacks and tea, she retreated to the side silently.
Not letting her off the hook, Sally said, "Didn't you hear me asking you to apologize? Are you both dumb and mute now?"
"Forget it, Mdm. Hebert," Jenna interrupted while leaning against Clark, pretending to be forgiving. "I'm sure she didn't hurt me on purpose."
Upon hearing this, Sally took her hand and complimented, "My child, you're being too kind. No wonder you've been taken advantage of by some heartless people. How I hope you were my daughter-in-law instead."
The housekeepers of the Reid family exchanged weird glances with each other when they heard this.
Judy clenched her fists in embarrassment. The main reason she had no standing in the Reid residence was because of Sally's attitude toward her.
"It's getting late. I only came back to get something. I have to go to the company later. You guys carry on."
Clark's voice interrupted the conversation.
He stood up from the sofa and cast a glance at Judy before saying, "Come upstairs with me."
Surprised, Judy looked at him with confusion. Was he helping her out of the situation?
As the two went upstairs, Sally's expression darkened.
Angrily, she said, "This mute really knows how to play her cards. Just look at how Clark is trying to protect her!"
Jenna shrugged it off and replied, "Mdm. Hebert, Clark is just pitying her. If he was really protecting her, why didn't he refute what you said?"
In her view, not only did Clark not protect Judy, but he also seemed to dislike her. Perhaps he was planning to give Judy a scolding for hurting her.
At the thought of his concern for her earlier, she became even more full of herself.
Meanwhile, Clark closed the door to his study. Judy took out a piece of paper and pen from her pocket and wrote a line before handing the paper to him.
"Thank you for helping me just now." NôvelDrama.Org © 2024.
He glanced at it and scoffed. "Helping you? You're thinking too much."
Judy was slightly taken aback.
"What happened in the kitchen just now?" Clark asked.
"I didn't do anything."
"If you didn't do anything, how did Jenna get hurt? What were you two arguing about?"
His gaze was stern as he looked coldly at her and continued, "Did Matthew send you here to find something for him again?"
