MISTAKE 141
Chapter 141: Heat online
Attorney General Marcus Rosso strode in, flanked by two aides carrying stacks of documents.
A hush fell over the room as Russo made his way to the podium. He nodded to Mario, who stepped aside to allow him to address the chamber.
“Honorable members of Parliament,” Russo began, his deep voice carrying easily through the room. “I know you have many questions. I’m here to provide answers and to present evidence of crimes so severe that they threaten the very foundations of our democracy.”
He paused, his eyes sweeping across the chamber. “President Edward Ricardo is the head of the criminal organization known as the Twelve Guns.”
The silence that followed was deafening. For a moment, it seemed as if the entire chamber had collectively held its breath. Then, all at once, pandemonium broke loose.
“Preposterous!”
“This is a coup!”
“Where’s your proof?”
Rosso held up his hands, waiting for the shouting to subside. “I understand your skepticism. Such an accusation is unprecedented. But the evidence is irrefutable.”
He nodded to his aides, who began distributing packets to the parliamentarians. “In front of you, you’ll find financial records showing millions of dollars funneled from known Twelve Guns operations into offshore accounts controlled by President Ricardo. You’ll also find transcripts of
wiretapped conversations in which the President discusses Twelve Guns operations using code words we’ve now decrypted.”

As the members flipped through the packets, a stunned silence fell evidence was damning.

Russo continued, “We’ve also recovered encrypted emails from the President’s private server, outlining plans for drug shipments, weapons deals, and even assassinations. The scope of his involvement is… staggering.”
Marcus Reeves, his face pale, stood up slowly. “Mr. Attorney General, if this is true… how long has this been going on? How did we miss this?”
Russo’s expression was grim. “Based on our investigation, President Ricardo has been involved with the Twelve Guns for over a decade, predating his presidency. As for how we missed it… the President used his position to obstruct investigations, redirect resources, and protect his criminal empire. It was a masterful deception… until now.”
Claire Donovan spoke up next, her voice shaking slightly. “And what triggered this investigation? Why now?”
Russell hesitated for a moment before answering. “We received crucial evidence from an unexpected source. Daniel Shaw, the head of the Shaw family, provided us with internal Twelve Guns documents implicating the President.”
“The Shaw?” someone asked. Most of them did not know of the Shaw family’s hands in the underworld. Many had heard rumors. But one thing was clear. To use their name meant they could back the evidence.
This revelation sent another shock wave through the chamber. The idea that this could be proven was a problem. By revealing this publicly, they had no choice but to look into the evidence, and knowing the Shaw family, they were thorough. If anyone spoke out for the president now, they would be shooting themselves in the foot.
As the implications sank in, Mario stepped back up to the podium. “In light of this evidence,
we will now vote on whether to formally impeach President Ricardo and remove him from office. This will be followed by a criminal trial in the Supreme Court. Please cast your votes
now.”
The electronic voting system lit up as members registered their decisions. The outcome was never in doubt. Within minutes, the results were in.
Mario’s voice was solemn as she announced, “With a vote of 342 to 17, Parliament has voted to impeach President Edward Ricardo and remove him from office, effective immediately. The criminal trial will commence as soon as the Supreme Court can be convened.”
As the historic session adjourned, shell–shocked parliamentarians filed out of the chamber, many already on their phones, undoubtedly spreading the news of what had just transpired.
Meanwhile, across town at the Capital Daily newsroom, Jack Winters was at his desk, frantically going through the documents that had just landed in his inbox. His hands shook slightly as he realized the magnitude of what he was reading.
Wohn
my God,” he muttered, his eyes wide.
His editor, Evelyn Blackwood, appeared at his shoulder. “What have you got, Winters?”
Jack looked up at her, his face pale. “Chief, this is it. Financial records, transcripts, emails… all linking President Ricardo to the Twelve Guns. It’s… it’s unbelievable.”
Blackwood’s eyes narrowed as she scanned the documents on Jack’s screen. “Where did this
come from?”
“The same source that tipped us off about the impeachment,” Jack replied. “They must have. access to whatever evidence was presented to Parliament.”
Blackwood straightened up, her mind already racing. “Winters, call your contact at
Parliament. Now. I want confirmation of what’s happening in that emergency session.”
Jack nodded, already dialing. After a brief, tense conversation, he hung up and turned to Blackwood. “It’s true. All of it. Parliament just voted to impeach President Ricardo. He’s been removed from office, effective immediately.”
For a moment, Blackwood stood perfectly still, the weight of the news settling over her. Then, suddenly, she sprang into action.
“Winters, get to the news studio now. You’re going live with this in ten minutes. I want an exclusive breaking news report with everything you’ve got.”
She turned to the rest of the newsroom, her voice ringing out. “Listen up, people! Drop everything you’re doing. President Ricardo has been impeached and removed from office on charges of heading a criminal organization. This is now our only story. I want updates on all platforms, reactions from political analysts, and man–on–the–street interviews. Move!”
The newsroom erupted into controlled chaos as reporters and editors scrambled to action. Phones rang off the hook, keyboards clattered furiously, and urgent conversations filled the
air.
Jack grabbed his notes and the packet of evidence, his heart pounding as he rushed to the studio. As he settled into the anchor’s chair, makeup artists fussing over him and technicians adjusting lights and microphones, he took a deep breath. Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
In just a few moments, he would be breaking the biggest story of his career, perhaps the biggest story in the nation’s history. The fall of a president, brought down by his own criminal empire. As the studio lights blazed to life and the camera’s red light blinked on, Jack steeled himself.
“Good evening. This is Jack Winters wi

As Jack’s voice carried the shocking news to millions of homes across the country, the political landscape of the nation shifted irrevocably. In the halls of power and in living rooms everywhere, the realization soon came. The country was shamed and corrupt.
President Edward Ricardo sat behind his imposing desk in the presidential office, his eyes. fixed on the television screen mounted on
the wall. The sound was muted, but the scrolling headlines told him everything he needed to know. His world was crumbling around him.
“BREAKING NEWS: PRESIDENT RICARDO IMPEACHED”
“SHOCKING EVIDENCE LINKS PRESIDENT TO ORGANIZED CRIME”
“TWELVE
GUNS CRIMINAL ORGANIZATION LED BY PRESIDENT RICARDO”
Ricardo’s hands trembled as he reached for the remote, turning up the volume. Jack Winters voice filled the room, steady and authoritative.
“…in a historic vote, Parliament has removed President Edward Ricardo from office, effective, immediately. The Attorney General has presented damning evidence linking Ricardo to the notorious criminal organization known as the Twelve Guns.”
A humorless chuckle escaped Ricardo’s lips. It was over. Years of careful planning, of building his empire from the shadows while presenting the face of a respectable leader to the world, was all of it, destroyed in an instant.
He reached for the phone, his mind racing. There were contingencies in place for this very scenario: escape routes, safe houses, and loyal operatives ready to spirit him away. But before his fingers could dial a number, the door to the president’s office burst open.
