Chapter 30 Get the Hell out of the Howard Family
In Howard’s group office, Alan was watching the engineering plan on his computer.
“Mr. Alan, our biggest competitor for the Tomly project this time, Sing Tan Group, has basically negotiated the bid for that piece of land, and it’s a bit difficult to change the situation now.”
Jack’s voice came from behind the computer, with a lot of worry in his tone.
Alan said, “There are no easy words in the business world.”
Jack pondered.
Howard’s group had made it so big that the opponents who could bid against it were never generalists, and it was impossible for a tiny opponent to appear in front of Alan.
As he was talking, Alan’s eyes suddenly went dark.
“Mr. Alan, what’s wrong?” Jack’s heart tightened and he was worried about the engineering department, “Is there something wrong with the planning?”
It wasn’t until he saw the computer screen that had been turned around by Alan that Jack snapped back to his sense.
On the computer screen was a new anonymous email, with only a photo attached.
Jack’s face was not very good, “Mr. Alan, this photo …”
The photo was of Lexie and Kevin in the section, and Kevin was holding one of Lexie’s hands and was looking down at something carefully for her.
Alan stared intently at the two men’s interlocked hands, his voice extremely cold, “Check the IP address and see who sent it.”
Jack shivered violently, “Yes.”
Alan stared at the photo, his fingers tapping the desktop, his eyes sinking as he thought of what happened over the past few days.
It seemed that although the Mitchell family arranged this mute girl to the Howard family, it didn’t turn out the way they wanted.
On the other side, Lexie was inexplicably uneasy.
She stayed at the hospital until the afternoon, just as Kevin got off work and gave her a ride.
Just after returning to Howard’s house, the two of them were called by Diana.
Diana swept Lexie with a displeased look, “Kevin, why did you come back with her?”Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
Lexie was about to take a notebook to write, Kevin already opened his mouth to explain, “It just so happens that I got off work, so I brought her back. We are families, and I am just doing her a favor.”
“We are not families?” Diana glanced at Lexie contemptuously, “It’s uncertain how long she can stay in our family, I …”
“Mom,” Kevin directly interrupted Diana’s words, her face went dark slightly.
Hearing that, Diana could only embarrassingly close her mouth, swallowed the rest of her words and said kindly, “Okay, I won’t say anything more. It’s rare that you get off work early today, stay and talk with me.”
Considering Lexie’s situation in the Howard family, Kevin looked up and turned his head, “Lexie, go and rest, I’ll let you know when it is time for dinner.”
Lexie hesitantly glanced at Diana.
“Alright, go ahead,” Diana was trying to talk to her son, so she didn’t bother with Lexie, she waved her hand, like she couldn’t wait for her to hurry up and leave.
Lexie was relieved.
After the sound of the door closing came from upstairs, Diana collected her disdainful gaze and peeled an apple for her son, speaking, “Kevin, I heard that Edith went to your hospital for her internship, right?”
“Yes,” Kevin said, a little distracted.
“Edith is the second young lady of the Mitchell family, highly educated, pretty. I have met her, she is a kind girl, in the future she will work with you, so you should take care of her.”
Kevin looked pale, “She doesn’t work with me.”
For the way she had spoken out against a patient at the hospital this morning, he would never take on someone like that as his intern assistant, and he would have to request a change of assistant regardless of her connections.
“Did Lexie say something to you?” Diana frowned, “This mute even talked bad words about others, she just doesn’t want her sister to be good.”
Kevin had a serious face, “Mom, can you not judge people by their appearance?”
Diana was mean, and Kevin knew it, plus Alan’s attitude, so Lexie’s situation in the Howard family can be imagined, and Kevin couldn’t bear it to see it.
“I’m not judging people by their appearance, I’ve investigated it,” Diana patiently explained to Kevin, “That mute’s mother was a mistress back then and got Edith’s mother killed, this kind of woman will only bring bad luck?”
Kevin’s brow furrowed for a moment, “Who did you hear that from?”
“Edith told me herself,” Diana sighed, “At noon today, she came to me crying, saying that she had a bit of unpleasantness at the hospital in the morning, and was misunderstood by you. After her explanation, I realized that she is so pitiful, how hard it is for her to lose her mother at the age of a teenager?”
It turned out to be Edith.
Kevin’s frown deepened, “Mom, you can’t just listen to one side of the story.”
“What’s wrong with you?” Diana instantly changed her face when she saw Kevin still speaking for Lexie, “Are you under some kind of drug by that mute? Why do you always help her?”
“I’m not helping her, I’m telling the truth, and,” Kevin looked at Diana seriously, “Mom, don’t bother with cousin’s family if you can. He has his own life, and we have our own.”
“What do you mean by that, you …”
“Mom, I’m tired, I’m going to my room for some rest,” Kevin put down his cup, directly interrupted Diana’s words, and went straight to his room.
Looking at her son’s back, Diana’s face turned livid with anger.
Lexie was resting in her room when she suddenly heard the sound of something being dropped with a ‘clang’ from downstairs, startled, and through the door of her room, she heard Diana’s fuming voice coming from downstairs.
“I’ve worked so hard to bring him up, and now that he’s grown up, he’s starting to accuse me.”
“Madam, don’t be angry, Mr. Kevin certainly didn’t mean that.”
“Why not? He just dislikes me for lingering in the Howard family and disgracing him? Alan has never said a word against me, but he had, is he my own son?”
“Madam, take it easy and have a sip of tea.”
“Clang,” there was another loud clang, like the sound of broken porcelain.
Lexie’s grip on the book clenched slightly, puzzled.
In fact, she had always found it strange. The Howard family had such a big family, even if Alan had lost his parents in his early years, he did not need his aunt Diana to bring him up.
And judging from Kevin’s attitude, he seemed to resist Diana staying at the Howard family.
Listening to the noise downstairs gradually subsiding, Lexie finally breathed a sigh of relief and turned the book to a page. She really had no intention of paying attention to these matters of the Howard family.
Unfortunately, the peace did not last long, and before she could finish reading the page, the door to the room was pushed open from outside with a ‘bang’, without even a knock.
Lexie was taken aback and looked up in surprise.
Diana was standing in the doorway, looking at her in anger, “Mute, hurry up and pack your things and get the hell out of Howard’s house right now!”
Lexie’s heart tightened and she clutched the book tightly.
