Chapter 22
Chapter 22
--- Chapter 22 Casper Woke Up
Natalie washed herself up and got changed, but she was still pale and weak.
Someone knocked on the door a moment later.
“Mr. Langston wants you to have this, Madam.
It’s warming tea.”
Mrs. Jenkins put the tea down.
“He also wants me to make something for you in case you’re hungry.
I don’t know what you’d like, so I made some congee.
You can have some after you finish your tea.”
She just came out of a hot shower, but she still felt cold.
Natlie looked at the warming tea and mocked, “Really? I can’t believe he’d be so kind.
It’s not poisoned, is it?”
Casper was passing by her room, and he heard that.
Is that how she sees me? “I have a hundred better ways to kill someone,”
he said coldly.
She looked at him warily.
The sight of him made her stomach churn.
Nobody builds a dungeon in their own home.
This guy is mad! Fortunately, he left just a moment later.
Natalie felt a stab of pain from her stomach.
She frowned and finished the warming tea, then she went down to have the congee.
She was pregnant, and she wouldn’t let anything happen to the baby, but she had to divorce Casper as
soon as possible too.
She needed to get away from this demon.
Casper appeared in the dining room a moment later.
Natalie tensed up the moment he saw him, and she didn’t try to hide her vigilant gaze.
She was worried he might snap again for no reason.
“You haven’t eaten anything the whole day, Mr. Langston.
You must be hungry.
I’ll get you some congee.”
Mrs. Jenkins ladled a bowl of congee for Casper too.
The atmosphere was a bit weird, but Casper didn’t refuse, nor did he leave.
Natalie was hungry, but she lost her appetite.
“Nobody’s going to invest in a company straddled with a hundred-million-dollar debt and that has no
tech of their own.”
He slurped a bit of the congee and suggested, “Logan still owns the company.
You haven’t inherited it yet.
As long as you don’t take over, the debt won’t fall on you.
Even if you take over, I can introduce some buyers to you if you want.”
This was the best way to do it.
The buyers he knew would make great offers and never lowball.
He thought Natalie might make some money if she sold the company.
Natalie was surprised.
He’s giving me suggestions? Is he for real? I bet he’s gonna make me grovel and beg for his help.
She decided not to take his suggestion.
“My mother poured her heart and soul into this company.
I won’t give up, and I won’t sell it.”
I won’t sell it through you even if that’s the last thing I do.
She couldn’t get the loan after what she did to Harold, but she had one more way out—investors.
She just needed some investors, and the company would have hope.
She would have to raise three kids on her own after the divorce, so she must have a backup plan in
place.
Casper’s face fell.
“Suit yourself.”
He left the dining room on his wheelchair.
“You’re bleeding, Madam!”
Mrs. Jenkins shouted.
She then recalled something, so she whispered, “Is it your period, Madam? I’ll get you some pads.”
Casper was at the doorstep, and he looked back at her.
Natalie looked pale and weak.
He wondered if he was seeing things, since she seemed to be trembling.
Mrs. Jenkins came back with the pads, and Natalie took them from her quickly, then she went to the
bathroom.
She left the house in a hurry a few moments later and hailed a cab to the hospital.
… She went through a checkup, and the doctor said the baby was alright, though her pregnancy was a
bit unstable.
He prescribed some tablets for pregnant women and told Natalie to keep her baby safe.
She came out of the hospital, and the sun shone on her.
The warmth made her feel alive.
A bright-red Ferrari skidded to a halt, stopping beside Natalie.
Natalie frowned.
She covered her belly by instinct and took a few steps back.
Someone rolled the window down, and Justin took his sunglasses off.
He looked delighted.
“Natalie! It is you! Why didn’t you take my calls? And you didn’t even text! My dad yelled at me because
of you, you know., but I don’t blame you.
I know I hurt you badly, but give me another chance.
I’ll make it up to you.”
Natalie looked at him.
I see he hasn’t learnt his lesson.
I thought I told him to never come to me again.
“Are you sure you want to make it up to me and not try to get your hands on the Langstons’
inheritance? Sorry, but that’s not possible.
Casper’s awake, and I’m pregnant with his baby.
Give up, Justin.”
--- Chapter 23 If He’s Dead
Justin was thunderstruck.
“What? Impossible!”
His face fell, and he roared, “That’s a lie! He can’t even stand up! There’s no way you guys can have
sex! There’s no way he can knock you up!”
“Nothing’s impossible.
I don’t care what you think.”
Justin’s mind raced, and he quickly got out of the car and forced a smile.
“Okay, okay.
It’s not every day I run into you.
I heard your company is in trouble.
I’m rich.
I can lend you the money, or I can invest in your company.
Let’s talk over lunch.
My treat.
What do you think?”
She wanted to refuse.
Justin was the last person on her list of potential investors, but then she didn’t want to face Casper
either.
She also wanted to know what Justin was planning.
A moment of hesitation later, she agreed.
… They went to a famous French restaurant in Kaiton.
Justin ordered a lot of food, but Natalie had morning sickness.
She lost her appetite the moment she saw meat.
“Are you really pregnant, Natalie?”
Justin’s eyes shone as he asked.
He had noticed the file in Natalie’s hands, and she was also holding some meds.
They were obviously for pregnant women.
That was why he wanted to have lunch with her.
He wanted more information.
Natalie looked at him.
“The baby’s not yours.
Why are you so excited? Do you like being cucked so much?”
Justin tensed up.
He was humiliated enough that Britney cheated on him, and now Natalie brazenly brought that up.
But I can’t make her mad just yet.
I need to make her mine.
“I don’t mind if the baby’s not mine.
They’ll be the heir to the Langstons, right? And if Casper dies…”
Natalie stared at him in horror.
“Are you mad? You want to kill Casper?”
“If he’s dead, then your baby’s gonna be the only heir to the Langstons.
My promise is always valid, Natalie.
I’ll make the preparations if you just say the word.”
Justin had this look of insanity in his eyes.
Natalie toppled her coffee over accidentally, and the liquid splashed onto the back of her hand.
She gasped.
It wasn’t scalding, but it did look messy.
Justin looked disgusted.
He asked the waiter to clean it up right away.
“Go ahead with that suicide plan yourself.
Don’t drag me into this.
I’ve never seen you or talked to you today.
I’m leaving now.”
She picked her stuff up and left before the waiter even came to clean.
He wants me to kill Casper? Anyone who betrays him dies horribly.
Henry’s an example.
I’m not going to go along with this suicide plan.
Justin refused to give up.
He tried to hold her hand, but she flung it away.
“Don’t touch me, you filth!”
Natalie shouted.
All the customers looked at them.
Sasha was in a seat not far from them.
She took Natalie and Justin’s photo, specifically the one where Justin held her hand.
She then sent the picture to Casper along with a text.
… Casper was in his office, which was on the highest floor of the company building.
His phone screen lit up, so he picked it up and saw the photo Sasha sent him.
‘Don’t take this the wrong way.
I was having lunch with my friend, and I ran into Miss Hartwell.
I think the guy is Justin, heir of Lewis Corporation.
I heard he’s a playboy, and I think he’s Miss Hartwell’s ex.’ Casper’s face fell.
She’s seeing another guy behind my back? And it’s her ex? Looks like she hasn’t learnt her lesson.
How dare she? You forced my hand, Natalie.
… Natalie came back at six.
She realized that things were off the moment she came in.
“What did you do today?”
Casper asked.
He had more patience now, since his lack of patience caused a misunderstanding last time.
Still, it was very limited.
He wouldn’t torture her if she answered honestly, but he wouldn’t go easy on her if she didn’t.
Natalie hid her meds behind her.
“Why do you ask? I’m not your slave, Casper.
I didn’t feel too good, so I went to the hospital.
No big deal, right?”
“What else?”
Natalie froze.
Does he know I met up with Justin?
-- Chapter 24 Do You Fear Death?
Impossible.
I went to the hospital and only ran into him by chance.
There’s no way he knows.
If he knows Justin wants to kill him, he might kill me first to vent.
I can’t tell him I’ve seen Justin.
An eerie silence fell upon the living room.
Natalie felt her blood freeze, and she said, “No.”
That was a lie.
Casper clicked into the photo and showed it to Natalie. Property © 2024 N0(v)elDrama.Org.
Justin was holding her hand in the photo, and they looked like a couple.
Natalie’s heart sank.
“Were you stalking me? You pervert! This is a crime!”
she roared, and her heart skipped a beat.
“Nobody talks to me like that,”
Casper said icily.
“Do you fear death, Natalie?”
Natalie froze.
“W-What do you want, you madman? Are you locking me up again? You don’t deserve to live, you
animal! I’m calling the cops!”
Natalie took her phone out and tried to call the cops, but Casper snatched it away and crushed it before
she could.
His eyes were red with fury, and he growled, “Lock her up! Nobody can see her unless I say so!”
Natalie calmed down abruptly.
There was no use struggling.
“Kill me if you dare, or I’ll make you grovel one day!”
“Over my dead body.”
Mrs. Jenkins noticed the meds Natalie left behind after she was taken away.
“I don’t think the madam would cheat on you, sir.
This must be a misunderstanding.”
She mustered her courage and defended Natalie, “Mood swings are normal during periods.
The madam didn’t mean to argue.”
Mrs. Jenkins opened the bag, then she had a weird look on her face when she saw the meds inside.
“Sir, these meds are—”
Casper refused to listen.
“Throw them out.”
Mrs. Jenkins kept quiet and backed off in case she made him angry.
… A black Rolls-Royce drove into the villa three days later.
Ethel had come with a doctor.
She just received a text from Mrs. Jenkins that said Casper had locked up Natalie for three days.
She was an inch away from death when the door to the basement was opened.
“Casper, I know you don’t like Natalie, and you have no idea how dating works, since you never had a
relationship before.
But she’s your wife.
You can’t do this to her.
This is too much! Are you going to starve her to death if I hadn’t come?”
she chided.
Casper said nothing.
Ethel shook her head.
She said nothing more and told the doctor to take Natalie out.
The doctor checked on her.
Natalie was not in any danger, but she was too weak to eat.
He hooked her up to an IV infusion and left.
“Sorry, Natalie.
Casper has been this way ever since he’s a kid.
Don’t blame him for this.
It’s my fault.
I thought he wouldn’t make you suffer if you guys got married, but I was wrong,”
Ethel blamed herself.
“If he does this to you again, I don’t mind you two getting a divorce.
You should get a guy who treats you better.”
Natalie didn’t take that seriously.
Ethel only wanted to use her.
She wasn’t being genuinely nice.
“Maybe he wouldn’t do this if you bore his child.
I heard your father’s company is straddled with debt.
Most people can’t help with that kind of burden.”
Ethel’s eyes shone, and she hatched a plan.
“I bet Casper will help if you get pregnant with his child.”
The mention of the child made Natalie touch her belly.
The baby was finicky to begin with, and now she was starved for three days.
She wondered if the baby was even alive.
Casper came to the room after Ethel left.
“I’ll kill the kid even if you get pregnant with it, Natalie,”
he said icily.
Natalie shot him a similar icy look.
She hissed, “I’d rather die than bear your kid.
I’d rather get knocked up by some random guy than you.”
Murder flashed in his eyes for a moment.
“Don’t forget what you said.”
He stormed off.
She rested up for two days and went for another checkup.
She was worried about the child, but fortunately, everything was fine.
She held the results tightly and heaved a sigh of relief.
“Is that you, Miss Hartwell? Why are you in the OBGYN department? Are you really pregnant with
Casper’s baby?”
Chapter 25 You Don’t Love Him?
Natalie turned around to find Sasha, and she hid the results behind her back.
Sasha noticed what she did, and she got a little suspicious.
“Just because I’m in the OBGYN department doesn’t mean I’m pregnant.
He locked me up for three days.
I wasn’t feeling well, so I came for a checkup.
And I hate him.
You should have thought I was here for an abortion,”
she snapped in annoyance.
Sasha loved Casper, and she had tried to sabotage Natalie back in the villa last time.
Natalie didn’t want to talk to her, but Sasha wouldn’t let her go so easily.
“Let’s talk, Miss Hartwell.”
“There’s nothing to talk about.”
Sasha smiled.
“I don’t like owing someone, Miss Hartwell.
I know I shouldn’t have done that to you last time, and I’m sorry.
Please, let me treat you to lunch if you accept my apology.”
She sounded so righteous, as if her apology was some kind of charity Natalie must accept.
Natalie was hungry, however.
She had to come with an empty stomach for the checkup, and she had low blood sugar.
She was not fully healed either, but most importantly, Sasha would keep hounding her if she refused.
“Fine.”
The ladies came to a restaurant about ten minutes later.
Natalie ordered some light food that barely had meat.
First, she barely had any appetite, and second, she had to control her weight to keep Casper from
finding out she was pregnant.
Sasha went even further.
She only ordered a cup of coffee.
“I heard he was going to get the divorce today, but Ethel found out he locked you up, and she vetoed
the decision.
Is that true?”
She took a sip of the coffee.
“I don’t care what Ethel thinks.
I’m getting a divorce.”
“You don’t like him?”
Sasha questioned.
She couldn’t believe it.
“He’s the most brilliant man I’ve ever seen.
No woman can resist him.
I’ve dated him for years, and marrying him is my biggest dream.”
“So why did you run away from the wedding?”
Ethel wouldn’t have chosen me if you had stayed around.
Sasha disliked how Natalie questioned her.
“Don’t look at me like that.
I didn’t run away.
I was overseas on a search for a doctor, but he already married you when I found the doctor for him.”
As if she wanted to prove her love, she said, “You have no idea what I did for him.
I removed my womb and dashed any chances of being a mother just for him.
It’s worth it just for him.
He dislikes children.”
He dislikes kids? Natalie didn’t expect that.
She knew Casper was mad, but Sasha was madder.
It took great courage for a woman to remove her womb and dash any chances at being a mother.
“Why doesn’t he like kids?”
she asked.
Some men disliked children, but Casper took it to the next level.
She couldn’t believe he disliked children to the point that he would kill them.
“No idea, but he’s disliked children since forever.
He gets really mad even if kids touch him by chance.
I even saw him throttle a child before.”
Natalie’s breathing turned heavier.
“Aren’t you scared?”
Sasha didn’t care.
“Why should I be? I wasn’t the one he throttled.
He must have his reasons for doing it, but I’ll take his side no matter what.”
Wow.
Sasha’s mad too.
I need to get away from these crazies.
She had a fill and was about to leave.
Sasha stopped her.
“Do you really not like him, Natalie?”
“I don’t.”
“Why?”
“No reason.
Why the questions? Honestly, if I had the choice between you and him, I’d rather pick you.”
Because he’d kill me if he snaps.
“A-Are you a—”
Sasha was surprised.
Natalie looked at her.
“It’s just an example.
I’m straight.
I’ll be going now.”
She left.
Sasha looked at the phone on her table.
She had called Casper discreetly while they were talking, and now she picked her phone up.
“Sorry, Casper.
Called you by mistake.
I didn’t mean it.”
