Accidentally Married

Branch One Hundred and Twenty Five

Jessica found herself watching Xavier retreat. It was not her intention to pay him back with such harsh words been he had been nothing but sweet in the past few days.

The only reason she spilled was because he pressed. Now that he knew she felt terrible. For the rest of the candidates for the interview, Jessica had her mind wandering around to how she was going to face Xavier later that day.

“Thank you for coming,” Jessica said as she stood up to her feet.

The man in front of her who was applying for the position of her secretary stood up and bowed. “I hope to hear positive results from you soon”

She was exhausted. She has told Leslie and Alicia that she would like to have a mini-interview and that they should help her with prospective candidates.

Alicia told her that a lot of people showed interest when she mentioned the interview was for a position at the restaurant of the wife of a Delgado. She got a greater turnout than she had expected and she was tired.

She wondered how she was going to go over every single candidate and then make her choice in the end. Her eyes caught the clock on the wall and she noticed that it was way past working hours.

She trudged herself to the back room where she kept her bag. She picked them up and began to leave. She has been taking Uber and taxis ever since she started coming in frequently. As she pulled out her phone from her bag her eyes caught the flowers Xavier had brought earlier.

She could not deny he had a good memory. She wrote down in the list she wrote at Aurora Haven that she would love to receive flowers from her love interest at work and have a little office romance too. Maybe he was apologizing, maybe he was doing his assignment too.

She picked up the flowers and inserted them into the vase she had picked out earlier for the decoration of her office. She was not expecting flowers from anyone but decided to have fresh flowers as often as possible.

She smelt the fresh flowers and felt guilty once again for the way she let him go. She called Brian to ask if he had come into the office and Brian told her that he did not.

By the time Jessica got down from the office and locked the door a strange figure leaning against a car startled her. It was already so late that the sun had set and she was yet to install the security lights they needed.

“Oh my gosh, you gave me a scare,” she said her hand on her chest trying to steady her breathing that had skyrocketed because of the strange man.

On a closer look, she could tell who it was from the outline. She knew it well now. Three months staying together should at least let her know that much. She blinked and her mouth opened.

“I thought you had left? What are you still doing here?” she asked moving closer to him.

“I saw you came without a car, get in ill take you home,” he said as he opened the front seat for her.

She moved quietly and quickly into the car. She sat down and he closed the door without a word. She could not tell what he was feeling but she could not help but feel so special.

“I’m going now”

The car ride was silent and Jessica wanted to break it. She just did not know how to do it. She waited for him to say something but he pretended like she was not in the car with him.

She cleared her throat and her eyes darted to him several times. She saw his jaw tighten. It was obvious that he was angry but was trying his best to keep himself together.Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.

“I thought you had left” she finally found herself saying in a squeaky voice that did not sound like hers.

“I was about to leave but then I realized that you did not bring a car with you,” he said his eyes on the road never wavering.

She was glad he was focused on driving but that he did not look at her meant that he was still very angry. She did not need a soothsayer or a fortune teller to tell her she was in the wrong.

“You should always bring a car with you. You can drive yourself or ask any of the drivers to bring you. They are getting paid after all” he said his jaw still tightened more than ever.

“I prefer taking public transport, I am comfortable with it. I take a bus from our terminal to the nearest terminal here. It is untrekkable so I take a taxi or Uber here from the terminal” she explained.

“Just do as I say,” he tells her. His voice is low and somehow she forgets why and likes the way it sounds.

She leans into the chairs and closes her eyes. “I was extremely insensitive today. I know I won’t like it if someone told me what I said today no matter how it is” she started her eyes still closed.

“I guess I am becoming inconsiderate these days” she added and waited for him to dismiss what she said about herself, but she only heard the car humming back.

“I am sorry about my words. I would try my best to be more considerate about the way I speak” she said opening her eyes.

She turned her face to him and saw her staring at him. She looked to the road. “The road” she screamed when she noticed his gaze lingered and did not pull away from her.

“It’s on autopilot mode” he whispered.

“Still, I don’t think I feel comfortable with that,” she said her hand going to the steering wheel. His hands caught hers before they could go there.

“I am also sorry,” he said rubbing the back of her hand slightly. “I guess some of the things you said were true,” he said emphasis on the word some.

She felt a tingling sensation run through her hand and settle in her stomach. She felt all the butterflies she had to wake up and begin to give her a funny feeling.

“I should be sorry” she murmured lowly.

Why was he doing this? Was it intentional?

“You are deceiving the press, right? You’ve been in a romantic relationship before”
